Lenore Goldfarb, B. Comm, B. Sc., Dip.C., IBCLC is a lactation educator and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She is co-author of the Newman-Goldfarb protocols for Induced Lactation: The Guide for Maximizing Milk Supply with Dr. Jack Newman, who is a consultant on this site. In addition to her ongoing research with Dr. Newman to help adoptive breastfeeding mothers, Lenore is founder of the Goldfarb Breastfeeding Program of the Herzl Family Practice Centre, Sir Mortimer B. Davis-Jewish General Hospital, in Montréal, Canada, where she is also a lactation consultant and lactation educator.
In April 2002 Lenore established this website as an information resource for couples who are expanding their families by adoption, surrogacy, or traditional pregnancy as well as those experiencing infertility and/or recurrent miscarriage. AskLenore.com supports all mothers who wish to breastfeed, whether they are relactating, hoping to breastfeed after breast augmentation or reduction, inducing lactation for an adoptive child or one born by surrogacy, or breastfeeding a biological child. Lenore's son, Adam, was born in 1999 by gestational surrogacy. After Adam was conceived, Lenore was determined to breastfeed her baby and began searching for a doctor who could help her achieve that goal. She found Dr. Jack Newman, who worked with her to develop a protocol that enabled Lenore to provide breastmilk for her son from his second day of life. Adam was born prematurely, at 32 weeks' gestation, and was initially tube-fed with Lenore's breastmilk. He was able to feed on his own from the breast at 9 days and continued to receive breastmilk until he was 8 months old and a healthy 20 pounds. At her peak, Lenore was able to produce 32 ounces of breastmilk per day.
After Lenore's success with the protocol she began to spread the word. Soon she was receiving inquiries from women all over North America who were eager to breastfeed their adopted babies or babies born via surrogacy. In response, she wrote the first Guide to the Protocols for Induced Lactation, based on information in Dr. Newman's book and her own experience, and posted it on the web in July 2001. Since then, she has helped more than 500 adoptive mothers, intended mothers, and relactating women to bring in their milk supplies. She has also helped many adoptive and relactating moms to get older babies to the breast. An abbreviated version of the protocols is included in The Breastfeeding Answer Book, Third Edition, by Nancy Morbacher (La Leche League International). Lenore is currently pursuing her doctorate at Union Institute & University.
Lenore is the 2007 recipient of the Quebec Lactation Consultant Association Linda J. Smith Award of Excellence. This award was presented to Lenore on June 4th, 2007 by Linda J. Smith on behalf of the Quebec Lactation Consultant Association
In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the field of human lactation, for challenging the status quo in our society, her sincere efforts to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding, and for endeavoring to bring excellence to the IBCLC profession.

Co-founder/Lactation Consultant and Educator - Goldfarb Breastfeeding Program While training to become an IBCLC, Lenore noticed that the clinic in Montréal where she gained some of her clinical experience was inadequate. She also felt the city needed an education program to train lactation consultants and medical practitioners in this field. To meet these needs, Lenore established the Goldfarb Breastfeeding program of the Herzl Family Practice Centre, Sir Mortimer B. Davis-Jewish General Hospital. The program consists of a hospital-based breastfeeding clinic that is available to the public free of charge and an educational program that offers clinical training to obstetrical fellows, medical students, nurses, and candidates for IBCLC exam. Lenore is also co-author of a lactation education program that is taught by Carole Dobrich, RN, ICBLC, to nurses at St. Mary's Hospital and the Lakeshore General Hospital who are preparing for the IBCLC exam. |

Recurrent Miscarriage and Infertility Consultant/ The Infertility Guide During Lenore's own experience with recurrent miscarriage and infertility, she attended major symposiums on infertility and assisted reproduction techniques and learned all she could about technological advances in this field. She has helped numerous couples find resources that enabled them to conceive and carry their babies to term. Several obstetrician-gynecologists now follow protocols to prevent recurrent miscarriage that are derived from these patients' successful outcomes. In 1995, Lenore wrote the "Guide to Infertility: An Overview," which she revises continually. Lenore has also assembled comprehensive information to assist couples dealing with recurrent miscarriage. |
