Has anyone noticed a DECREASE in their sex drive while on the protocol and actively pumping/breastfeeding? My cousin has induced for me and is producing 4-5 ounces per day ... she did the accelerated protocal for 28 days and then started pumping. She has been pumping for about one month now. She is wondering if she should discontinue the Domperidone/wondering if that is the cause of the decreased sex drive. Any input would be appreciated.

Mahalo,
Christina

Hello, again,

Tonight I went to quilt group/made my milk run/saw my cousin ... she really is looking for any input. Personally, I have not noticed any change in that department, although I have gained quite a bit of weight ... hmmmm ... anyone else gain weight? The research I've done on the medication does not have loss of sex drive of weight gain as a side effect. Maybe it's something to do with the pumping and breastfeeding?

Mahalo,

I would say that is what it is. When we are lactating we are releasing all kinds of hormones. That are not normally going on at such levels in our bodies. That could be a factor, plus I think it is natures way of birth control. Many times a breasfeeding momma just doesn't feel like being cozy with daddy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> If it is really bad for her and is a problem I think she should talk to her health care provider. How old did you say she was?

I'm so glad someone brought this subject up! I was too shy to! I used to have quite a high sex drive. Most of the time I was more randy than the hubby but the tables have turned since I've been on the protocol. He doesn't really mind but he noticed and said something before I ever mentioned it which makes me realize I'm not imagining it.

Here's where I differ from your cousin. I've not begun pumping yet! So I don't know if it is the dom or the Yasmin but something has taken the boom-chicka-bow-wow out of my bedroom. I've actually lost weight through dieting too so I don't think extra weight can be to blame for my disinterest in sex. Hum . . . I don't things will improve after the munckin arrives, either. The only advice I can give is what we've used. Her partner can take a bit more time with foreplay and invest in some of the KY Jelly Warming Liquid. (Sorry if that's TMI but I certainly understand how distressing loss of sex drive can be <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> )

Thanks, Vanessa and Laurie. My cousin is 38. I'll pass on your tips ... thank you.

Also, Lenore emailed me this response while the boards were down:
"As for sex drive. The normal sex drive of a woman who has just delivered and is breastfeeding is vastly reduced. The reason for this is to allow her body to recover. Since the protocols mimic what happens during and after pregnancy, the sex drive of a woman on the protocols is also reduced. Ovulation also tends to be suppressed while on the protocol and breastfeeding which is why many women do not see a period until they wean off the dom or wean their babies which ever comes first.

However, this does not mean that a fertile woman can't become pregnant so we highly recommend that alternative birth control be used such as a barrier method, condom, diaphram, etc. to prevent unwanted pregnancy.

Weight gain is also par for the course during pregnancy and is the same for women on the protocols. We recommend increasing proteins and decreasing carbs to help ward off too much weight gain."
