OK I have question. I am having a hard time drinking 3 quarts of water a day. I carry a quart of water every where and still cant drink 3 of those a day. Can I add something to the water like crystal light (no carbs no sugar low calories). It makes it much easier to drink the water if it is lemonaid or something just as yummy. Will that do the same thing as water. I dont want to drink anything that will dehydrate me. But I dont think that the crystal light will dehydrate. Any suggestions.
Julie

I remember Lenore saying drink to thirst. I am wondering where the 3 quart amount comes in although it would be great if you could drink that much. Most people say 6-8 glasses which is 48-64 oz. That at most is 2 quarts. Of course it also depends on your climate, where I am is very dry so I we need to drink more water here. One thing that helps is drinking water at room temp. Your body can assimilate it better. If you drink very cold water your body must first warm it up and then use it. So it takes more energy and is not good for the body to drink very cold drinks of any kind. I am leary of the crystal light type things because they are mostly chemicals. How about adding a squeeze of lemon to your water. It can be very refreshing. <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

I figure that we should all be drinking those 2 quarts of water a day just to keep our own bodies healthy. And most of us are walking around dehydrated most of the time anyway, which is definitely not good.

So if we're also trying to manufacture extra liquid, it has to come from somewhere. Three or more quarts when I'm nursing is easy to do because I'm thirsty for even more than that. If you're not drinking enough, then where does that milk come from? I see women who get constipated or feel confused and tired and it improves when they drink more water, so I think it's important.

If you can't stand your water straight in large amounts, then adding something to flavour it is better than not drinking it. I would add a squeeze of lemon and a little sweetener (you could use honey or sugar, but I use splenda) to make it more interesting. Crystal Light is sweeter than I like, but if you made it with less powder than they say or just have every second glass of water flavoured or something, it's better than nothing. I sometimes add 1 part juice to 3 parts water to keep it interesting without alot of calories. Play around with it!

Hi Julie,

We recommned drinking to thirst. This usually translates to 6-8 glasses of water per day. Some people are thirstier than others though and may end up drinking more. The three quarts thing comes from another website where one of the proponents advocates drinking a ton of water. Believe it or not, forcing yourself to drink can actually work against you.

Listen to your body. Drink when you're thirsty. Add whatever you want to the water but be careful about adding too many carbohydrates or your backside is going to look like a reservoir.

fondly,

Yes, domperidone can make you thirsty. The birth control pill causes some water retention but once stopped, the effect diminishes.
