I just spoke with my adoption coordinator today. She said that there is a situation with a birthmom that is due at the end of the month (Aug), but it would most likely be a last minute decision.

If this worked out, I would have very little warning, so I wouldn't be able to pump more than a week before the birth. What should I do?? Please tell me what I would need to do in a situation like this. We are becoming high on the list of our coordinator's priorities, because of the length of our wait, so we are getting a higher and higher chance of a "drop off" or last minute situation. Knowing what I would do will help calm my nerves a little!

I have been on the regular protocol for 3 months and a week.

Thanks!!
Holly
Holly as soon as you know for sure you stop the bcp add the herbs continue on the dom and start pumping. You need to get a lactaid and use donor milk/your pumped milk/or formula to nurse your new little one. Follow up your nursing with pumping 10 minutes with a double pump. Which pump do you have? Having baby at your breast will build your supply
Hoping this all works out for you, how exciting! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Thank you!

I have a Medela Pump in Style, that I used exclusively while my twin boys were in the NICU, and often when they were home-- they were preemie with reflux, plus I had to pump extra to try to get supply enough for two! The pump and I are good buddies by now! It worked well then (at the end of my nursing the boys I was getting 30oz for each, per day! Amazing what your body can do!) So, I am hoping my body will kick in and perform again.

I wish that I would have 6 weeks to prepare, but it may just not happen.... I don't want to start the little one on formula, but I also don't want to stop the bcp's early and start pumping, and then it not work out.

I have a good friend who is due this month (with my GodDaughter). I wonder how she would feel if I asked her to pump some and save it for me?! I don't know if I could even ask... she's a first time mom and I don't know how she'll feel about the extra work!

So many questions, and so much to think about! At least I went ahead and bought that Lactaid system!!!
Good Holly sounds like you are very prepared. How old are your boys now? How long has it been since you nursed.
I think you will do fine. Knowing how to pump is going to be a HUGE bonus for you. Letting down to the pump is not always the easiest thing.
Thank you-- I hope that I can figure this Lactaid out, assuming that I won't have the 6 weeks to prepare.

My boys are 3 years now, and I nursed them until 12/03.

I really hope this works out.... I'm ready to see how the dom and bcp's worked for me!!
holly I am sure you will be very pleased. I did the accelerated protocol when my daughter was a year. She had problems with milk based formulas and I couldn't stand soy. She had been nursing with a lact-aid and I was talking dom and herbs and producing about 1/3 to 1/2 of her needs. I remember when I started pumping after the protocol and how excited I was to see that milk collecting in the bottles. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
As for the lact-aid, I ended up taping the lact-aid tube to get it to stay in place. I used scotch tape. LOL We were still in a hotel. Some women find if they latch baby they can thread the tube into the corner of the mouth.
I only had to do the tape for a day or two until I was more agile and getting her latched.
