Hello everyone I just found out my insurance covers a pump and i've located the supplier, but I need a script from OB, I spoke with my regular OB for a script for the yasmin and she wouldn't do it, should I find a new doctor and try with them?

Any doctor shoudl be able to write the script... try a clinic too. My family doctor gave me the script.

Why wouldn't she do it? Did you also ask her to write the script for a breast pump?

you can order your yasmin from inhousepharmacy The place we also get our domperidone. No script required

I have the meds I just need a script for the pump so my insurance can pay, I have a call into my Family doctor so hopefully that will work, when I spoke with the lady at the supply store she said I needed a script from my OB.

Oh sorry I misunderstood. Didn't realize she gave you the script for the meds but not the pump? I am wondering why she wouldn't write the script for the pump? Does she know you are using the Yasmin to induce lactation? You don't need the script to be from your OB Your family doc can write one too. Honestly why would any of them NOT write you a script?

My OB wasn't very enthused about the idea, when I spoke with her about the protocols I also took her a copy and she called back a few days later saying she didn't know much about it and couldn't write the script for meds so ordered meds online and now she won't write script for pump, but I just received call from my family practice nurse and I will get script for pump from him, since he knows we were trying to adopt and in favor of what i'm doing(a male doctor can you believe it). So I will be getting my pump YEH!!!!!!!!!!

GREAT!! smile Yeah, any doctor should do for the script, she probably just said OB because that is who most mothers would be seeing right after a birth.

Congrats!

Yay Rochelle I am so glad your family doc is being helpful. My DD's pediatrician was super encouraging of me breastfeeding.
I get a little uptight when a doctor has the attitude that since they don't know much about something they aren't supportive. You gave her the info she should educate herself. smile

Oh and just me but I would most likely never go back to that doctor again.

I second that Laurie

Oh you better know that i'll never go back!!!!

I agree...never go back to that one.
My doctor also didn't know a thing about adoptive nursing.
But she was willing to admit it and read up about it and referred to an OB and a Lactation specialist to find out more about it.

I just got another call from my family doctors office and there was another soon to be adoptive mom in there that was wandering how I will be able to breastfeed the baby, I guess the ladies at the front office were telling her about me because they are so excited for my family, well anyway they called me and I referred her to this site and gave her my phone number, what a small world.

Rochelle that is so cool. You will be able to encourage each other. smile
Ergent I am glad you have a doctor who is willing to be informed. smile

I hate it when doctors feel they can rule your lives. Not writing a script for a pump! Good Grief! That is a shallow person.

Hate to jump in on your thread - but - I finally got our gp to give me a rx for the pump. But nobody knows where to go to get it filled. Our local medical supply says "maybe the hospital"???
Any ideas or are there any supply companies via the web?

Where do you live?
Posted By: kimjimbo Re: Script for pump - 07/27/07 06:26 PM
central florida - Leesburg area to be exact.
But I'm a bit discouraged as I called BCBS of Fl and they said a pump is not covered. Maybe I should just stick with the PISA. I don't know?? If it would make a big difference I would bite the bullet and get one anyway - any thoughts?

I believe the coverage falls under durable medical equipment.

It looks as though Medela is going to just the PISA. They have discontinued the Pump in Style Traveler. They only have the Pump In Style Advanced Back Pack now. They do still have the pump in style original. But I really liked the fact that I could take the unit out of the back pack to save space. I am getting a Pump In Style Advanced. Its been several years since I have tried one. See how well they work now. As it looks like before long it will be the only one available
