What kind of pumps do you ladies use/recommend? I'll have been on the protocol for about 2 month's when I go off BCP to start pumping. Should I just buy a good pump? If so which one? Should I rent a hospital grade pump for 2 month's then buy a good pump once my LO arrives? I want to make sure I get enough milk as possible. Granted renting is kind of a waste of money when I could put it towards buying a pump but if it would mean getting more milk then I'd do it.

What do you ladies think?

I use the Medela Pump in Style and I like it. You can buy at a decent price on ebay.

Stupid question but the pump in style is an electric pump right? I'm checking out pumps on a web site and it say's "manual" which I'm assuming means it has a manual pump option. I'm also wondering if it has a hands free option. I went to the medela web site and none of their pumps say they have a hands free option.

The pump in style is an electric pump but sometimes they are sold with the manual devise that Medela makes to attach to the flange. The picture should show the pump in style in a bag. I use a Medela Lactina that I borrow from work. I have also used the Medela Symphony which I liked a lot because it's quieter and has a neat let down gimmick to the suction pattern.

Both are hospital grade, double, electric pumps.

I'm wondering this too. I have purchased a brand new double electric Medela PIS and I've been reading on another message board that you really need a hospital grade which is out of my price range and as we'll be on a tight budget when I'm home on parental leave I don't want to have to pay an extra $72/month which is what it would cost here to rent hospital grade. Have others started out pumping using the PIS and found it good?

The pump in style is hospital grade. Its the same motor in a different cover. It will handle years and years of pumping. I have used all of them.. Even the hospital pumps.. medela, ameda and pump in style and the limerick are the best

I have a PJ's Limerick and a Pump In Style. I used the Limerick most of the time and had good success. I got good amounts from the PIS too though. I have heard that the PIS motors do sometimes go out with too much use.

I have the pis and the only thing about it, is it is sooooooo loud! Maybe it is just mine...I cant imaging brining it into an airport when we travel!

always get a dual electric breast pump if you can.. saves A LOT of time..

I like the Medela Pump in Style Advance You can often find one on craiglists unused and still in the box.. I wouldn't bother with a rental because you may still need it after your baby arrives or for when you need to be away.

I wouldn't bother with a rental, either. Things like the Pump In Style have as much suction as you need. The main difference is that the hospital grade rental pumps have motors that are heavy duty enough for heavy use for years and years.

Another thing I would recommend is that you get a bustier or hands-free conversion kit. That way, you can rest, read, or something like that while pumping. I suspect that kind of thing would have helped me a lot, because I had a big problem with anxiety from thinking about it too much keeping me from letting down my milk with a pump. It is pretty hard to keep from focusing on it when you have to sit there and hold the horns in place.

personally i use the medela swing.. size and price are just perfect.. its very quiet and i use it every lunch break in the office.. saves time too as its a dual pump..

I warmly recommend the Medela Pump In Style Advanced which is simply the best breast pump I've tried. The great thing about it is that it's super fast... I get finished pumping in half the time it takes to use my manual pump.
