My adopted daughter is 18 months. I have tandem nursed her with my bio 4 year old son since she was 6 hours old. (She had less than 2 ounces of formula in her life.) I needed a little (2 to 6 ounces a day) donor milk, but mainly I provided most of her milk.

I am taking 120 mg domperidone and motherlove's more milk special blend. I used to take 160 mg dom, but I was able to wean down. When I tried going to 110 mg many months ago my supply dropped. I recently tried to wean the special blend and my supply dropped so I'm back on full dose.

I buy Canadian dom since it has worked better for me. It costs about $80 a month. Ouch. It will be a huge financial relief when I don't need to buy it any more. I think the special blend is costing $20 a month.

I'm thinking about the future and weaning. My thoughts are to stop the dom when she turns 2. Any thoughts on that? Any suggestions? How do I do weaning doses of dom?

I think I'll keep taking the special blend as long as she wants to nurse since it does make a difference, though I don't know how much milk I'll make with just that.

Recently, my son stopped nursing to sleep. I think I just ovulated for the first time since before the baby was born. My caloric needs have decreased. I know when my son turned 1.5, I noticed a significant decrease in my appetite so assume his milk needs dropped then. I noticed another drop when he was 2. So, I don't know if my starting to ovulate/need less calories is just from him not night nursing (I doubt it.) Or if she's also cutting back how much she takes in. I anticipate her taking in less over the next several months.

It makes me sad to think of stopping the dom as I worry it will entice her to wean herself. She is not a comfort nurser, she nurses for food and gets on with her day. I think she will wean much younger than my son even if I have full milk supply. However, the dom is just so expensive for us.

I appreciate any thoughts. Thanks

You can go to www.inhousepharmacy.com and get the name brand (what I use) of dom (motilium) for MUCH cheaper!

I got some of that before from them and it didn't work as well for me.

It's shipped from Canada and it's the name brand. What are you using if you aren't using that?

The mailing address on the website is for VANUATU. It is an island in the South Pacific.

I know sometimes that drugs will be produced using less than the full amount of medication (sometimes without any active ingredients) and sold from these internet pharmacies. They package them to look just like the name brand, but they're not. I know people here have had good luck. I have not and I've heard others say the same. I needed the full 160 mg a day so if these meds have less than that, they don't work for me. In any case, I'm just not willing to risk it.

How's it going?

We're doing our normal routine. I don't plan on decreasing the dom until August. PLUS, someone is going to give me several hundred inhousepharmacy motilliums so I'll stay on those after August.

I would like to know the recommended way to decrease the dom for weaning. I guess I could just do a topic search. That hadn't occurred to me before. I know I've seen it written about here.
