I am going to start pumping in about 2 weeks. I work at night from 5p-3a on sunday, monday and Thursday. I was wondering if anyone could give me a pumping schedule that would work. I can pump at work but I only get about 38 minutes of break time during that 10 hours. I would love to have some advise on times I could pump throughout the day. Is it every 3 hours and since I am up until 3am 3 days a week do I need to pump every 3 hours during that time. Or stop at like 10p then when I get home a 3am. This is my thought how does it sound.
7am,10am,1pm, 4pm,7pm(or8pm if Im at work),10pm(or 11pm if im at work) then the last pumping at 3am (if not working then I will set my alarm). Is that enough in a day. Does anybody have any other suggestions?
Thanks
Julie

Hi Julie,

You'll need to pump at least 8 times in a 24 hour period. If you can pump just before your shift, and just after, plus once during the 38 minute break that will make three times. Then you'll of course need to get some sleep. So pump before you sleep and when you wake up. That makes 5 times already. Then you'll need to find 3 more times when you can pump. If that means pumping every hour for 3 hours, so be it. The main idea is to drain the breasts as often as you can in a 24 hour period. Is the 38 minutes of break time continuous or do you have say two 10 minute breaks and one 30 minute break? If you can pump during the small breaks that will be added pumping times. No doubt about it, you're going to have to get creative.

Fondly,
