Hi again.

My supply seems to have dropped a little, as we have had a lot of stress and worry over the baby's heart problems (which have now been addressed by a specialist and we have a plan in place, so very relieved).

Should I pump more often? Currently I pump 3 hourly during the day and once at night.

Would going 2 hourly help or hinder?

We are 2 weeks out from due date.

Many thanks

2 hourly would help not hinder. If baby is solely on breast she will most likely be nursing every 2 hours during the day. More is better as it is supply and demand.

Many thanks Laurie. Will start the 2 hourly tomorrow. My volume has stopped dropping, so that's a start, now we just need to get it increasing again. Still have 2 weeks to do it in, and am feeling quite determined to make it work, so hopefully will have some results soon.

Hi Bernice -

I'm finding that my supply goes up and down...a few days ago I pumped 10oz (that was the day we had our u/s and I got to see our little girl again! who knows...maybe that made a difference), but then went back to just under 8oz. I added another pump in during the day (I'm pumping 7xday and once at night) so we'll see if that makes a difference.

good luck!

Hi Karma

Wow that is a huge amount!! Well done. Thanks for the encouragement. you know what its like, when you spend each day watching those precious drips going into the bottle, it gets disheartening when the bottles aren't as full. I will try the 2 hourly and see how that goes. Fingers crossed.

Hi:
I went through a stressful period. I produced a few drops but then it did finally start streaming when I was more relaxed. Then up to 1 oz every 3 hours and less at night. When I saw the baby in the NICU I produced more. I expect the same will be with you. I'm not sure the every 2 hours will help. Perhaps Lenore can chime in. I am sure that the more days you do it, the more you will get.

Good luck!
K

Most babies nurse every 2 hours and shouldn't go longer than every 3 in the beginning when establishing your supply. It won't hinder production.
