Hi!
I'm 30 weeks 4 days today & my gynec wants to induce me on June 28th. My due date is July 11th.
I dont yet know anything about induction but trying to read & getting mixed views about it.Some say go for ir others say dont!
Also doc told me that he'll shift me to using heparin a week or tow b4 induction so i'm kind of worried coz I think my baby is used to fragmin (5000 units one time) & it might affect me or baby as I'll have to take heparin shots twice (2500 units each)'
HAs anyone switched to Heparin just b4 delivery & had any problems?
I'm a little concerned!
my next appointment is for sonogram on May 17th where they'll see the baby & after that will go weekly!

Just hoping everything will be fine & well with us!

Thanks a LOT!

Just curious, did your Dr. tell you why he wants to induce? You didn't mention that in your post. I was induced with all my birthbabies and it was beacuse of High BP. There are also lots of ways to induce. I would ask what is the induction plan. I had an overnight in the hospital with a pill called miso something inserted into the cervix to soften it then the next day they put me on pitocin drip. My water broke on its own and my son was born that night.
You need to know that inductions are very intense. The contractions don't flow and peak like with natural labor. I wanted to have a birth center birth with my midwives and totally natural. I was disappointed to have to have an induction but I still did it natural (without drugs and letting things happen on there own) With my first 2 they broke my water, gave me drugs etc... My other suggestion would be to keep your water intact as long as possible. It minimizes the intensity of the contractions. They like to break water because they say it speeds up your labor, but that is not always the case. Plus if they break your water and your labor doesn't progress you are looking at a C-section. I was pleased to find that I could do the natural birth even with an induction. That is all my body knows and I would do it again if given the opportunity to have another baby. Be as informed as you can be and ask lots of questions before the date arrives. Make your decisions on what you want and don't want and then make them known. Because many times they just assume to do things without your ideas in mind. I made sure my hubby and midwife knew what I wanted and they spoke for me when I could not speak for myself. We talked to the Dr. on duty and she knew what I wanted too. I just asked that they talk to me before they decided to do anything. I was probably a pain in the rear patient for them.

Thanks LAlle for bringing it to my notice I didnt know anything about inducing just that my doc wanted it so we'll have it!
He didnt give me any reason other then that coz I've had 3 m/c & am high risk,Also I'm on fragmin & aspirin so he said he didnt want to take chances.
I've been kind of worried about it but didnt know what questions to ask that time , I'm trying to find info on it but I keep reading contradictory stuff-in some they favor others dont!I dont have any other health related problem other then taking fragmin & aspirin for sticky blood!
I'll sure ask him if it 's the right choice for me!
My doc's been a little weird lately.last time I called he was rude to me
I dont know if I can change my OB now or not but I seriously wanted to yesterday.
he thinks I'm way too paranoid & gets etsty when I call him to ask about the problems I'm having:(
I DO know I'm very anxious but I'm trying my best ,THIS is my ONLY chance & if i succeed in having a baby this time there will be hope for me to have others too but my doc doesnt understand it!

Maybe he wants it so he can make sure he will be there for the birth.

Hi SG,

My Dr. wanted to induce two weeks early mainly because of my clotting disorder and the fact that Brennan was 9lbs 1oz, and often times second babies are bigger. Brooke was two weeks early and weighed in at 8lbs 5oz, imagine if I would have kept going.....

Regarding induction, my experiences have both been good. With Brennan, they induced, starting the pit. at 8:30am, he was born at 5:13pm. Not too bad. With Brooke, things went even faster, they started the pit. at about 8:30, by noon I was only 3cm, they broke my waters at 1:30pm, she was out by 2:15pm It is definitely true, or at least it was for me, once they break your waters the contractions definitely intensify. I was doing ok until that happened.... Of course, after that things went so fast I didn't even have time for an epidural (can you say OUCH????) I am guessing they want to get the baby out at a reasonable size (is she big at this point?), to minimize any complications from the blood thinners in your system.

It is odd to me that they are keeping you on thinners right up to delivery. My Dr. had me stop taking my shots on Tuesday, two days before Brooke was to be induced, and then had me start up the next day after she was born. She said the heparin only stays in your system for 12 hours but you are at minimal risk by the time you are that far along, as far as stopping for a very short period of time, because the veins in the placenta are big enough by then to handle things for a small amount of time should any clots form.

SG, I am so excited for you, I can't wait until this baby is born

HI Barbi!
I dont think my baby is big but she did weigh the right amount at the last u/s.
he told me that he'll switch me to heparin 2 weeks b4 induction coz heparin is in the syetem for 12 hours. But he didnt yet tell me till how long I'll be on heparin b4 delivery or what!
I'm just conderned that after getting used to fragmin would My body accept heparin & I'm praying hard that it doesnt affect my baby!
Had I known I would have to switch to heparin I would have insisted on using heparin all thru the pregnancy!

As of right now i'm mad at my doc coz he made me feel like I was making up problems to bother him on weekend!:(

But I'll definitely ask himquestions b4 being induced!
After he tells me everything I'll get a second opinion!

Hope all goes well with me!
I'm sooooooo eager to have my baby girl!

Hi D,

Congratulations!!! You're almost there!!!

Heparin and Fragmin are essentially the same thing. They are both Heparin. Fragmin is basically a more refined form of heparin.

Your doctor sounds like he knows what he's doing and so you're in good hands. Relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. You're baby will be in your arms soon enough.

Now is the time to contact a board certified lactation consultant to arrange breastfeeding support. You can find a board certified lactation consultant here www.iblce.org Just click on the US or International Registry depending on where you are located.

Fondly,

Thanks a LOT Lenore!
I've been worried about the switch to heparin as I read that that it was risky to switch to heparin after fragmin.
he'll switch me to heparin on week 36th.

Will talk to the doc on may 17th at my next appt & then write asll the details!

D
