Hi Lenore,

Well, I wanted to update you on how things are going. I took Clomid for the first time this month - it was horrible! About the time I started ovulating I had the most horrible horrible stomach ache, followed by throwing up and hot flashes the next day. It took over a week to get over the pain in my stomach. I usually know when I am ovulating, but I never have that much pain! I swore I would never take clomid again. The good news -- my progesterone levels were great when they took my blood on day 21. I told my husband that I would not take clomid again in June if we didn't geet pregnant in May. He of course is pretty indifferent to the whole thing and would rather not hear about 'female' issues.... ;o)

Anyway, Sunday I took a pregnancy test - just in case - and it came out negative ( I decided to try again on Monday just to be sure. It had only been 11 days so I figured I may have been testing early. (I know the exact day as it was the only one I wasn't in too much pain to do anything - we basically only had one shot this month....). Anyway, I took the test again Monday and agin negative ( Darn, looks like I will be taking clomid again....

Monday at around 12:30 I pulled my back out so bad all I could do was lay in bed and cry -- completely miserable. By Tuesday I was no better and my husband was a bit worried so he took me to the dr. Well, they asked if there was any chance I could be pregnant and I said nope, I just took a test and it came out negative. Well, before they could do xrays they wanted to be sure so they made me take the test. 10 minutes alter the nurse came in with a big smile on her face -- it was POSITIVE! I am pregnant! I am still in a bit of shock, and just praying everything is ok. I was supposed to go to the dr. today to learn how to do my fragmin shots, but I am in too much pain and can't drive so I will go tomorrow at 9:30. I am trying not to get too excited about this until it starts to look like this will be the one, but I wanted to share my news with you and thank you for all of your support and kind words. I will keep you posted on what happens.

Right now I am going to go lay back down - my Dr. diagnosed me with severe muscle spasms and believe me, they are definitely severe.

Take care,

Barbi

Hi Barbi,

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Now I don't mean to stress you out with you flat on your back and all but you REALLY need to do the Fragmin and baby aspirin ASAP. In fact you should have been on the Fragmin already. You probably have only a short window of time to get going with those shots. So PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, drag yourself to the MD or have an RN come to your home to show you how to do them. It's not rocket science. You grab a bit of tummy, swab with an alcohol pad, and pop in the needle so it goes straight in. The needle isn't too long so you can't do damage. Massage the area. It will sting a bit because of the shot but that will pass in a couple of seconds.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

Fondly,

Hi Lenore!

Don't worry, you didn't stress me out I did that on my own. I was in the pool working on walking a little better and started thinking about the whole heparin thing and decided to go yesterday - as painful as it was getting to the dr. I am so glad I did, I feel much better about it now and am really hoping things will be ok. Dr. Bick said that anything past about six weeks is too late, I figure I am at roughly four weeks (if I am figuring right, my last period was April 30, conception was May 14), so hopefully things are ok )

I am now waiting to see how my progesterone level is. I had a progesterone level test last week and it looked great (before I knew I was preg), so I am hoping all is still well, I hated doing the progesterone suppositories and am hoping to avoid that this time

I'll keep you posted on everything, take care,

Barbi

Hi Barbi,

WHEW!!! That was close. You nearly gave me a heart attack LOL.

Ok, so you're on your heparin and your baby aspirin. It's a good idea to do the progesterone thing for the first 12 weeks just to be safe. If you don't like the suppositories you can go for either the shots or the lozenges but the shots provide a better and more consistent result. I know the suppositories are yucky but they may be the least difficult to use. Those progesterone shots are intermuscular...quite nasty.

Can you get your progesterone level done ASAP? And can we get a beta hcg while you're at it so we can see how you're doing?

Hi Lenore!

My Dr. did the first HCG level test on Wednesday and did the second one today -- hopefully Monday I will have good news. She also checked my progesterone, so I guess I will know in the next few days whether I need to do that or not, she checked them on day 21 and said they were great, so I am hoping they still are.....

I'll keep you posted!

Thanks Cathy! I am trying not to get too excited, although it is hard. My Dr's office called last night and said my progesterone was good, but not great, so they have put me on prometrium. I am so happy it is not the suppositories, I never got any sleep having to wake up and do that every morning...

Anyway, we will know monday if my levels are doubling like they should, so keep your fingers crossed

THANK YOU LORD!!!

I've been sweating over you my dear. Ok, now all is right with the world. You're on everything possible to keep this pregnancy going. If you can stay on everything until at least 12 weeks gestation, the placental vessels should be big enough that clots won't be a problem and at the same time the placenta should be in full swing producing all the progesterone you need. Until that time you have to count on a tiny little ovarian cyst called the corpus luteum to manufacture all that progesterone. I'm VERY happy you're getting the needed support.

Hi Lenore,

I do have one question, one of the side affects from the prometrium is blood clotting. Will the heparin counter act that? Reading that has me really freaked out now.

Thanks!

Yes. Heparin is the treatment to specifically ward off blood clots. It's only certain types of progesterone that you have to worry about. And remember, drug manufacturers have to say this in order to cover their butts. There is one particular progesterone to stay away from and that's the one in Diane 35 called cyproterone.

Hang in there honey. You're going to be fine. You've got the best MD's looking out for you.
