Good Morning....I have miscarried 4 times all at the 7 1/2 week point, and once at 4 1/2 weeks. We see a heartbeat at 6 1/2 weeks and then it is gone within the next week. The next pregnancy we will be trying baby aspirin and heparin (progesterone too).

I was wondering if anyone knew what miscarriages around this 6-7 weeks point were more attributed to - a clotting-platlet disorder that heparin would help or is this generally more immunological (possibly husband and I too close) and IVIG or LIT would help.

More my curiosity than anything else....Thanks in advance for any help you may offer!

Hi Heather,

First I want to say how sorry I am about your recurrent miscarriages, I have had two in the last year and know how heartbreaking it is. After my second miscarriage my Dr. immediately ordered tests to figure out why I was miscarrying all of a sudden (I have a six year old), and she also sent me to a hematologist. I am guessing that your miscarriages are probably due to clotting (Lenore can tell you more), just because of when they are happening. My Dr. told me that before 12 weeks the veins in the placenta are so small they cannot handle the blood flow (when you reach a certain age usually), and clots form and cause the placenta to become blocked (basically) therefore cutting off any oxygen and nutrients necessary for the baby. I am six weeks pregnant right now and started heparin shots for my clotting disorder at four weeks ? literally as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I have been taking baby aspirin since February and I am also taking prometriem for my first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
I hope this helps a little. Take care,

Barbi

Barbi-
Thanks for the information. It seems to be the clotting - I am hoping (for lack of a better word) because Heparin really seems to help. I am also doing the baby aspirin. What is the other medication you mentioned you were taking for? (If you don't mind sharing....I haven't heard of that one.)
I have my fingers crossed for you and I have been following your posts. I am wishing you well from Florida!
Thanks again for the info.....
Best Wishes!
Heather
