HI everyone!

I've been at my wits end since the day I went to the infertility specialist .First I have sticky platelet syndrome so doc says i'll have to take heparin or freprin for it when I get pregnant!
I've had 3 miscarriages meaning that I got pregnant without any help of meds b4.
This time though Doc gave me Clomid but it didnt help me so he increased the dose from 50 mg to 100 & last time he gave me an injection with clomid to push my ovaries harder he said
Told me I was getting clomid resistant! so the other option is this injection which he says increase the risk of ovarian cancer!
I bolted & havnt gone to my doc since then which is about 2 months now!
Can anyone tell me if Clomid also causes Ova.cancer as I'm to sensitive to meds.
I'm scared,

Waiting for reply.
SG

Hello,
I had read somewhere that you are not supposed to use Clomid more than 2 or 3 times. I know that with IVF they made me sign a paper stating that some research (not all)
has linked IVF with it's ovarian hyperstimulation to ovarian cancer. Since I had done both Clomid and taken injections of Fertinex (and made alot of eggs), I am especially carefull to get yearly transvaginal sonograms to check my ovaries. I also have a fairly new onset of endometriosis, that just occured AFTER my fertility tx's, I never had it before....I have such bad chronic pain between the endo (I have had two surgeries for it already), and my adhesions/scar tissue from the other two abdominal surgeries for ectopics and then to finally take both my tubes out...I am in severe pain most of the time. The only time I was not in pain was the seven months on the NG protocol, since I was not ovulating and had no period I had no endo pain and for some reason the adhesion pain went away also. The birth control pill "rested" my ovaries also, and the bcp and breastfeeding both decrease the risk of ovarian cancer.
I wanted to let you know that some studies did not find an increased risk. I would stay go for it, try 3x...are you going to do IUI or IVF? A pregnancy/breastfeeding will also decrease the risk of ovarian ca. After wards, do what I do and get yearly sonograms, just to make sure. It is up to you. Although our 3 fresh and 1 frozen IVF did not work, and it was alot to go through, I guess I look back and say I had to do it, I had to try. I didn't want to always look back and say "I should have tried it , it may have worked". We had a very hard time dealing with the IVF's not working, noone could ever tell us why it did not work (good eggs, great sperm etc)
We had to get in touch with RESOLVE and also I went to counseling about it. Noone ever gets over it totally. It is a huge loss. But, we are so excited to be adopting a little girl very soon! I hope I have helped, I have been through it and I understand your fears and concerns. Just ask yourself, 10 years from now when you look back, will you say,,I should have tried...OR I am glad we did not try anymore and pursued surrogacy or adoption etc... Let us know how it goes, take care, Cathy

HI Cathy!

Thanks! It helped.I should have gone for IUI last time when Doc gave me those injections but we were so unclear. Also it seems that i make eggs but not always the standard 22mm which is the best required limit to get pregnant & a healthy baby.
doc told me it'll take me time to conceive by myself:( & he's NEVER clear in answering any questions I have.

I'm planning to go for IUI in a couple of months if I dont conceive naturally.

Ur right! I'll give everything a try b4 I adopt so that i wont have any regrets.
I thought that baby making was the EASIESt work I could do but apparently I was mistaken.Thats the HARDEST job & there r times when I feel so letdown.

I'll just keep hoping someday i'll have a baby to nurture!
Thanks a LOT & CONGRATS U'll be a wonderfu l Mom:)
Do keep me posted about ur adoption procedure & progress!

Thanks a LOT!

SG

Thanks SG,
I have a son already, he just turned 12, he is from Peru. We are currently adopting a newborn girl from Guatemala. We tried for 13 years to have a baby, I lost seven pregnancies (on my own) and did IVF 4 times plus all the surgeries etc...
We have actually been trying to the last six years to adopt our second child, tried via foster care, tried via 3 US agencies, now are going international again.
Sounds like you have a very good chance of things working out for you. We kept trying until we got to the point that I could not have one more blood test or HSG or anything,,,it took us 13 years to get to that point, but you will know, deep in your heart, when you have had enough. Hopefully you will not get to that point and soon you will be pregnant! I am here for any support you need, as are the other ladies,,we know what you are going through. Try not to listen to comments by well meaning co-workers or relatives...."Just relax" or "if it was meant to be, it will happen", and not to offend anyone, but I really did not like it when people told me "its God's will that you cannot have a child"...I heard that all the time.
You keep trying and let us know how it goes,,take care, Cathy

Dear SG,

Cathy has given you the best advice possible. I just want to add that Clomid has been linked to uterine cancer. The effect appears to be cumulative, meaning the more you take, the more you are at risk. There are other, safer alternatives. You may have to take injections but it's better than putting yourself at unnecessary risk.

I'm one of those infertility patients who did cycle after cycle of clomid before 13 ovum retrievals total for my two sons. I have a 3 1/2 year old and one on the way thanks to gestational surrogacy.

You can help yourself along naturally with ovulation predictor kits. In your case, as soon as you become pregnant you'll want to start the heparin/aspirin combination.

Hang in there.

Fondly,

HI Cathy!

Thanks a LOT! I had my period today. I was hoping against hope that I would be pregnant as i was 9 days late but yesterday did a Preg test & it was negative.
I'm thinking of going for IUI next month.I'm just confused if I should take Clomid 150mg as 2x failed or should I opt for injections substituted for clomid as I dont make more then 2 eggs per cycle it seems:( but I'm definitely going to go for IUI.Is there any infertility specialist in Dallas who has some heart coz mine is so flippant that I think he just wants to make money & thats all!

Thanks for all ur support it emans a world to me.
Since the day I joined here I feel there is hope & I feel silly for carrying on coz U have suffered million times more then me.

Ladies U give me inspiration and I salute U all .

Hi SG,
May I ask what is your age? I would rec. the injections with the IUI. I know of several ladies who have gotten pregnant that way, one which they thought was hopeless and she has two kids now.
Make sure you go on the progesterone suppositoreis, don't take any chances. Let us know how it goes...Cathy

Hi,
I started trying to have a child when I was 24 years old, we did our first adoption when I was 27. You are at a good age to get pregnant..Don't give up.. Try the fertinex (or whatever brand you are using) and IUI,,,it should do the trick for you.
The women who have ton's of eggs, like 30 plus etc,,really hyperstimulate their ovaries and would certainly be at higher risk. You were making 2 ? with the Clomid, which is good, so I am guessing you will respond well to the injections. Maybe it will even work on the first try?? Remember, pregancy and breastfeeding decrease your chances of ovarian ca,,,so it would all balance out in the long run.
Go for it, don 't be scared, the injections are subcutaneous and hardly hurt at all, the HCG is and IM injection, but it doesn't burn or anything going in either. It will be soooo worth it when it works.,.keep up the faith,,Cathy
