This is another reason why my preference is to use an agency. The agency does a thorough background check of both the surrogate and the couple. Besides the usual check for criminal record, a reputable agency will put the surrogate and the couple through psychological testing as well. My husband and I used a wonderful agency that has offices on the east and west coast. They are the Centre for Surrogate Parenting and Egg Donation located in Encino, CA.
