Hi Everyone!
A Very Happy New Year To All of You! Hope this year brings U all the happiness , luck & all the things U wish to come true!
I went to the doc today & heard my baby's heartbeat thru that Doppler instrument. The baby even jumped.I'm 13 weeks 2 days by date but dont know for sure as the doc didnt do a sono today! He did give me a tension though. He asked me to get the blood test done for Spina befida & downes syndrome in next 2 weeks just for routine sake. It isnt mandatory but he said he doesnt want to take chances. Doc says Its done in 15-18 weeks time & i'm 13 weeks so i have 2weeks to decide! I'm at a loss here! If I dont go thru this i'll wonder all the time but if I do i'll be an emotional mess till the results come. Has any of the ladies gone thru with this test! Any input would be VERY appreciated! Thanks for the support.

I was 39 years old with my last pregnancy and I opted not to do the downs test nor have an amnio. For me the decision was made based on my conviction that I wouldn't end the pregnancy because of Downs so I didn't see any reason to have the test. Amnio is risky as it can bring on spontaneous abortion. So that too was out. I have also known people who have had positive for downs and given birth to non downs children and the other way around as well. So the test is not completely accurate. Also keep in mind these are tests they routinely offer to everyone. So just because your doc mentioned them doesn't mean you are at any higher risk for them than anyone else. But ultimately the decision is of course a personal one.
How exciting that you heard your baby! <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif" alt="" />
