Poor guy! He got bronchiolitis when he was about 2.5 months old. Now he has the stomach flu at 4.5 months old. The pediatric nurse told me to try him on pedialyte, and I just tried to give him some in a bottle. I woke him up to give it to him. He started to suckle the bottle, then he stopped, and he eyes opened all the way, and he gave me this look of disgust. I don't know if it was for the bottle itself, the pedialite, or both, but he would not take it. So I offered the breast. He only nursed a couple of minutes, which is good. I don't want him to drink a ton, and then ralph it all up again. My poor baby!!
I'm going to try to nurse him a little more in another 10 minutes or so, then I will pump off the "extra".
Anyone have any advice?

Hi Dawn,

How awful!! Ok, my son had the same thing. Sometimes there's an ear infection that goes undiagnosed because it's "hidden" by the stomach flu...I hope his ears were checked....

You're doing all the right things. Pedialyte often and breastmilk in small amounts should do the trick. If he won't take the pedialyte, just keep offering the breast a little bit at a time. Even if it's a few sucks every 10 min or so. The idea is to keep him hydrated. Even if he upchucks he's still going to end up digesting some of your milk.

Fondly,
