We confirmed the legal situation with respect to which county she can file in and she can get a medical referral up here. She plans to fly out to the mid-west after 2 days (if she is able to physically). My question is: When does the colostrum come in? For how many days is it produced? I hope to have her pump while she's here, at least. I'm not sure if she is going to continue when she gets home. Thanks LD

Lenore extra helpful experienced member L Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 1,347 Canada	Hi LD, Well some birth mothers can pump right after birth and get a fair amount. It depends on the woman. My suggestion is to get her pumping ASAP. If she's planning on leaving after 2 days she's going to need to take a pump with her. Day three without the baby or a pump is going to be a whopper. That's the day the milk generally comes in. Collostrum mixes with the milk and is continued to be produced for about 10 days during which time the milk transitions to mature milk by about day 10. My surrogate showed up at my house on day three with 2 watermellons for breasts and said "WHERE IS THAT BABY!?!" the next sounds you heard were "GLUG GLUG GLUG." Fondly, Lenore Goldfarb, Ph.D.,CCC,IBCLC Wife to Rob, Mom to Adam aged 13, and Ethan aged 9, both born via GS and breastfed via Regular Newman-Goldfarb Protocol.
