What a great forum this is! I found the protocols last week, but didn't even realize that there was a message board until tonight. I tried to read as many of the past posts as I could to answer my questions, but I wanted to double check some info with 'the experts'. We are adopting a baby who is due Sept 9 (WHERE did the time go?)! I'm preparing to start the accelerated NG protocol. I ordered the dom last week, hoping it will be here 8/9 or so. I got the Yasmin bc pills today 8/3. Here goes....
1. Should I start the Yasmin immediately or wait for the dom to arrive and start them together?
2. I think I understand from the protocol that I should wait for significant changes to occur in my breasts, then stop the pill, continue the dom, and THEN start pumping. Is this correct? As opposed to pumping from the beginning, I mean.
3. Since I am just BARELY within the 30 day time frame, are there any changes I should make to the protocol as written? i.e. Should I stop the pill as soon as breast changes occur and start pumping then, or should I try to get a full 30 days of the bcp and hope that she doesn't deliver early?
4. When should I start with the fenugreek, blessed thistle in this whole process?

okay I can answer #2 you should start pumping when you stop the Yasmin but continue to take the Dom. also add in the herbs at that time. Now for question #1 I would say since you have the Yasmin and are waiting for the Dom plus you are really limited on time I would start the yasmin now and add in the Dom when it arrives. You want to be on the bcp non stop for as long as you can to mimic a pregnancy. Ideally you want to be on the dom too but you are short on time. (nana/lenore if that is wrong please correct) #3 I don't know if you should make any changes to the protocol but I would try to be on it for the full 30 days.(that would be taking both yasmin & Dom but you may not have that much time.) #4 add the herbs when you stop the Yasmin and start pumping. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Welcome and all the best to you as you begin your lactation journey.

I personally would not take the Yasmin UNTIL the domperidone arrives. You would be wasting your bcps. There will be NO breast changes without the 2 in combination. The Bcps will not develop your breasts without the domperidone.. So I would hold off...
Adoptive mommy to 4 , Last 2 adopted nursed. Youngest nursed till she was 5! Raising 2 grandbabies, as infants they were raised on donor breast milk

Thanks to both of you! So, Nona, I assume that there aren't any changes I should make to the protocol?

BTW Nona, congratulations on your new addition! I've been reading through lots more posts today.

My tip to you is to prepare your "pump bag" for the hospital (will you be there for the birth?). Gett your pump now and get familiar with it ... get your attachments sterilized and ready to go in a ziplock bag. Bring dish soap to wash your pump attachments. Also, practice using the Lactaid or SNS so that if you need to use it, you will be ready. This way, you will not be fumbling to learn everything at once.

Thanks, Christina! I feel like I should call you Heloise though (as in 'Hints from..')! You have some of the BEST ideas. My favorite was cutting holes in a bra so you don't have to hold the pump horns. I WISH I had thought of that one 3 years ago. I used the pump while I was nursing my bio son, but I definately need to familiarize myself with the LA. I just got it yesterday.
I will be there for the birth, as long as she doesn't go too early. She's due Sept 9 and I'm heading out Aug 30. She's in WI and we're in WA.

Ameless, I had nursed bio children prior to using the LA with my adopted daughter. I really think having had nursed before helped as the LA can be a little awkward. But once you get the hang of it, piece of cake.

Hello Ameless, and welcome!
Laurie's right, the lact-aid is actually easier to use than one would expect from the instructions. One thing I would definitely recommend is getting a few more units, maybe six in total. This makes life quite a bit easier.

You really seem quite focussed! Hee, hee ... you are so cute! I second Chris' idea of having six LA's, although, i must admit I still find myself preferring the SNS and I only have two! Now that I have a little routine going, having only two SNS is fine. Though if I was using the the LS exclusively, I think I would want six like Chris said.
Now I may sound like Heloise, but I really meant it when I said practice with the Lact-Aid, get your pump bag ready ... practice putting your pump together ... I went bizerk trying to learn so much all at once, no sleep for many, many hours caring for newborn after labor with GS. ... I felt like I gave birth and certainly wished I new how to better use the supplemental feeders better. NOW it is easier, but you'll be glad you take the time to practice now.

BUMMER!! Another day goes by without the dom showing up (my own fault for not ordering sooner). If it comes tomorrow I will be able to do the protocol for EXACTLY 30 days, IF she makes it to her due date.
I will take everyone's advice and order a few more LA's, and hope that she delivers late. How funny is that? Aren't we usually just on pins and needles waiting....?

Thanks, Christina! That is REALLY generous of you. I'm thinking about driving up to Canada today to get some. If anyone has information about getting it from Canada, please let me know.
I also sent an email to Global to see if they could send me a tracking number.
Obviously I didn't get it yesterday either! But I did go on a REALLY great hike!

It used to be you had to have a perscription to get it in Canada. I don't know if that has changed. A US doctor can write you one. There are also some compounding pharmacies in the US that sell dom. again you have to have a script. I know there is one in Portland maybe there is one close to you.

Where are you in Washington? We're only 20 minutes from Sumas, which is near Bellingham, if you wanted to come to my house and borrow a box of motilium. Or, you could see a Dr. (would probably cost $40 Canadian) and get a BC prescription and fill it here (about $70 Canadian for 400 pills). I don't think a US prescription will work for a regular (non online) pharmacy. So it would probably cost more to do it that way.

FINALLY! Just checked the mail and the dom showed up!
So today officially begins my journey toward inducing lactation. Although it unofficially began weeks ago when I first read that it was possible. I think that I first read about it on the adoption.com forums which led me to the ABRW site. After doing some dogpile and google searches I found the protocols. Unfortunately for me, I completely missed the fact that there were forums on this site. After posting a question on ABRW some nice poster clued me in to you all!!
Sorry for the rambling, but I'm pretty excited about the dom and who else could POSSIBLY understand?!!
BTW Thanks for the offer Kerri. I would probably have driven over tomorrow had it not arrived today. I live in Wenatchee.
