I should be getting my dom any day now (geez, this is taking forever to get it!! I hope customs didn't stop it. Pff...my luck) and I also got a rx for Yasmin. My DD's poop is looking more yellow now with little white flecks in it, but if I pump with a cheap'o pump nothing comes out. Could it be that she is more efficient than my cheap pump and is actually getting a small amoutn of milk? Should I start the Yasmin if this is the case? She is also taking Prevacid in powder form for her reflux and I just happened to realize that these little flecks might be the time release little ball things. So, I don't know. The LC at WIC told me to come in and they would weigh her before and after she nursed and that would give us a better gauge. If it's just a few drops or cc's, would they even be able to tell?

I just don't know if I should start the dom only and see what happens or if I should go ahead and take the Yasmin for the 42 days (I got 2 mo.'s worth of pills from my doc). What is your opinion???? PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you!

I am not Lenore... but I will try to help. Do NOT take the Yasmin without the Domperidone. You will just be wasting your pills. They have to be taken together in combination to make the changes in your breasts. If you just take the Yasmin.. thats just all your doing.. taking a birth control pill and making no changes in your breasts at all.
If your babies poo is turning yellow. I would say there is breastmilk flowing to your baby. As far as them weighing the baby before and after nursing. Yes they can tell. The scales are digital. They will know exactly how much breast milk your baby is getting after a feed. Will your baby nurse at the breast with no supliment? If so that is a great way to find out. Let them weigh the baby then nurse and let them weigh again. As far as the baby being more efficient. A baby is more efficient than ANY pump. So the answer is yes. You can be providing milk for your baby nursing that you can't see with a cheap pump. Let us know how your appointment goes

Nona, thank you!! Yeah, I know to take them together, I just worry that if I'm already producing an inkling of milk that I shouldn't be taking the bcp's because it will dry up the milk that is already there. I think I will just take the Yasmin with the dom and start from scratch and hopefully I won't do any harm if there is any milk now.

Honestly, I'm starting to think that there is no milk. I've heard that babies can still have yellow poop even on formula. She usually will comfort nurse for a little while after the LA bag is empty, but most times she just gets really mad and acts as if she is still hungry. She's currently taking 4 oz. every 3 hours, but I think I need to bump her up to 5 oz. now just to satisfy her.

Hopefully Lenor will see my post sometime this week. I'm getting worried that my dom STILL is not here. I ordered it around Feb. 26th and they said 10 to 14 days. It's still not here and now I'm worried and paranoid that it got stopped in customs. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Hopefully I'll get it this week.

Hi Saige,

Are you a birth mother? If you are a birth mother then we don't generally recommend the birth control pill. Domperidone should be enough to help your milk supply.

Your Cheapo pump is not a good indication of how you're doing. Some mothers have difficulty letting down to an electric pump! If you are having difficulty with your milk supply there are several things to do in order to turn this situation around.

1) Get the best latch possible. The lactation consultant can help you with this one. It doesn't matter how long your baby stays at the breast. If baby doesn't have a good latch, milk is not being transfered and your milk supply drops. To help you with latch please contact a board certified lactation consultant. You can find one here: www.iblce.org Just click on the "About IBLCE" button and the US and International registries pop up.

2) Supplementation if necessary is best done at the breast with the help of a supplementary feeding device such as a Lact-aid. www.lact-aid.com filled with either your pumped milk, donor milk, or artificial infant milk.

3) Frequent and efficient removal of milk from the breasts. There is a whey protein that is called the Feedback Inhibitor of Lactation that sits in the milk in your breasts. You need to get that thing OUTTA THERE in order to make more milk. So please arrange to either rent or purchase a good double electric breastpump such as the Medela Pump in Style Original. Try to pump for about 10 minutes after feeds. It's not forever, it's just for now, until your milk supply is re-established.

Start with this and please keep me posted.

Best,

Lenore, I don't know what we would do without you. No, I am not a birthmother. I adopted both of my children and I have never given birth. I was pg several times, but the longest any pregnancy has ever lasted was 7 weeks until I m/c'd. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Ok, so I will go ahead and start the Yasmin with the dom (Pff..if it ever gets here!)

I am going to get the WIC In Style from WIC (which apparently is the same as the PIS Original). And I'm definitely going to see a LC (either at WIC or with my med group). I definitely sometimes feel like I have latch issues, but for the most part it's good.

I am going to become a pumping fool!! Thanks again for your help. I will definitely let you know how it's going.
