In a recent message, "milk4baby" expressed concern about bcps. You suggested that she start Goat's Rue right away. I started taking bcp's and my blood pressure has skyrocketed.

When you suggested Goat's Rue, was this meant as a substitute for bcps in the time period on the protocols before you start pumping, or was the idea to take it with the Dom and start pumping right away?

Thanks.

Hi Lisa,

If you are having difficulty with blood pressure it's important for you to discuss this with your doctor right away. Blood pressure medications are compatible with the protocol, and in fact Aldomet has been found to increase milk supply in breastfeeding mothers. If you cannot for medical reasons use the birth control pill, then I'm suggesting goat's rue but it's not as effective as the birth control pill. It's just that it's the best we've got under the circumstances.

Best,
