Hi everyone. I just wanted some input on switching my bcp back to necon 1/35. I have been on the protocol since mid October. I started off on necon then changed to Diane mid December as per advice of lactation consultant. Now that Diane is no longer reccomended I thought switching back to the necon would be the easiest. I was able to do two 21 day cycles of the Diane. I started necon again last Thursday. I am hoping to start pumping mid March or end of March. Back in December I noticed that I could express drops I can still do this. I should be on the protocol for 5, 51/2, or six months before I start pumping. Is this really going to mess me up? I hope not. Any advice would be appreciated.

Another question before I go
How long were some of you on the protocol before you started pumping? Within a few weeks our homestudy will be completed that means we could get a baby at any time. There is also the possibility that we will not have much notice possibly a day or two of getting a baby. Any suggestions on when to start pumping would be appreciated? I am thinking about the begining or the middle of March. If I wait to the end of March that will give me six months on the protocol. Again any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bella

Bela,
It sounds like good plan! Thats what I am doing. 6 months on the protocol is a good number. It gives you the best chances for a full supply. I think we will be pumping buddies about the same time.

Bella,
I too started the protocol mid October. I was on Diane, and just switched to the 1/35 until my Yasmin arrives. We are hoping our baby girl will be born in February in Guatemala, and the paperwork will take about 4 months after that. I will probably go there for part of May and the month of June. By early July we should be ready to come home. I hope to stay on the protocol until mid April, then start pumping. That will give me 6 months on it. You and Nona and myself can all be pumping buddies! By the way, I love the name Bella,,is it short for Isabella?? Cathy

Cathy,

Thank you for your reply. My name is actually Christabelle. I go by my full name but I thought for these message boards Bella would better because it's shorter.
Are you counting your months in increments of four weeks or by actual months? I am glad to know that you and Nona and I will be pumping at the same time. This means I will not be going at it alone. Also It's good to know that six months gives you a better chance for a full supply. I am hopeful that I will be able to get a full supply. Are you planning on using a lact-aid when you first get baby. From surfing the message boards that are out there it seems like this is the suggestion.
Thank you for your input.

Bella,
I have both the lact-aid and the SNS. If I need to I will certainly use them. Keep in touch! Cathy

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to poke my nose in to clear up a couple of points about the protocols. We don't really count months or days on the regular protocol. The number of weeks or months in the guide is meant to assist mothers with when to start but once you've started all you need do is the birth control pill and domperidone everyday until about three weeks until your baby is due. You don't take the sugar pills or wait for your period each month because the protocols are designed to mimic a pregnancy. Pregnant women don't get their menses each month. See what I mean? The medications are to develop the milk making apparatus of your breasts, not for contraception. You don't even need a uterus or ovaries in order to breastfeed.

Once you're about three weeks from the big day, you can stop the birth control pill, maintain the domperidone, add the herbs and start pumping every 2-3 hours by day and once during the night. It's a good idea to drink water to thirst (6-8 glasses per day) and some ladies swear that oatmeal helps their milk supplies if they have it for breakfast 3 times a week.

That's all there is to it.

Oh and we've replaced the Diane 35 with Yasmin. So you can either stay on the Necon or switch to the Yasmin. On the long protocol, either one will work. Yasmin seems to produce faster breast development but on the long protocol you can use either since time is not a major factor.

Fondly,

I can't believe my Yasmin has not arrived yet and I took my last Necon 1/35 today,,I only had 6 left from a 1.5 years ago when I did this last time. I e-mailed the company and no response yet,,they had said it was shipped 1/22. Now I have to take Diane for a few days till the Yasmin finally arrives? I don't know what else to do at this point.
Thanks, Cathy

Hi Cathy,

In a pinch you can try www.getthepill.com and order some Ortho 1/35. They will send the prescription directly to your local pharmacy within about 2 hours, for a fee. Just be careful how you fill out the online questionnaire ;-). You don't want to be over 35 or menopausal for example.

Thanks Ester,
That is good to know. I took the Diane for 2 days then my Yasmin finally came. I don't seem to be responding as well to the meds as some of the other ladies. On a positive note, I bought quite a few shirts from Motherwear that were on the clearance rack and they arrived,,,they are so cute. I got 4 shirts and one sweater for just over 100 dollars. Now,,,I can't wait to use them! My sister thinks I will have a very hard time latching a 2-3 month old, but I told her I was determined! Thanks Ester,
Cathy
