Hi everyone! I just figured out how to post on the message boards after about 3 days. Ughh! I wrote to Lenore and told her she could post my email. I'll keep this post short. I have a nine month old baby girl who I attempted to breastfeed when she was born. Ran into some latching on problems and gave up quickly. Now Emily is struggling with ear infections and colds galore. I've been trying to relactate for about a month. I've been pumping for a month 4-6 times a day and taking herbal supplements. I've been getting drops since day one but nothing else.
I ordered Domperidone online and have been taking 20mg, 4x a day for about a week. I also have continued the herbal supplements and the pumping. I'm getting a bit more milk, but still nothing substantial.

My goal is to produce at least 4 oz a day of breastmilk to boost Emily's immune system. I feel like I'm running out of time (I've heard after 1 year, infants are not as affected by breastmilk).

I'm hesitant to take Yasmin due to the mood swings. I struggled with depression and anxiety during a tough pregnancy(2 months total bedrest, constant contractions) and a bit afterwards. I am in a good place now, and don't want to rock the boat.

Do I take the Yasmin for 30 days with the Domperidone and then start pumping? Or should I keep up with what I'm doing?
I'll do whatever it takes to boost milk supply any advice is welcome <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

My gyn was way not into doing the protocal while nursing...thus my almost three year old stopped nursing when I began. You do share any extra estrogen with your babe, so that's my only concern.

BTW - I only made a small amount of milk the first time around, using only herbs and later adding the dom.

Hi Tamara!

I wouldn't be giving Emily any breastmilk while I was on the bcp. I would try to pump after. Did you produce more breastmilk the second time around when you were on the protocal? Did you take bcp?

Thanks for your response
Maryellen

maryellen will she latch at all? I would say give the dom some more time before considering the bcp. Try to pump at least 8 times a day and once at night for 20 minutes. What kind of pump do you have?

Lalle,

Emily will not latch on at all. At one point she actually slapped me in the chest and belly laughed. Emily has a very strong personality. I'll keep trying though.

I've been renting a Medela Symphony. I've been thinking about getting a Medela Double Electrical pump to use in the car with an adaptor/battery pack.

Do you think this is the best pump for what I'm trying to do?
Any advice is welcome. I'm going to order the bcp just to have them on hand in case I decide to go that route.

One more question: Should I be taking the pill version of the herbal supplements? I'm using a supplement called Lactaflow from Wise Women Herbals. It has goat's rue and fenurgeek (sorry about spelling).
Thanks,
Maryellen

Yes. use the herbal supplements in pill form You need fenugreek, and blessed thistle. Goats rue is to develop the milk making mechanism which you should still have in place. I would up the pumping using a double pump, add the herbs as capsules, and keep taking the dom. I really think if you work on that you will see an increase and it will work for what you are doing. Give it some time. Like you said you can always switch to the protocol if necessary. For what it's worth I did the protocol when my DD was 15 months and she continued to nurse while I did the accelerated version of the protocol. You can do this, Hang in there momma! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
