I just got my March 03 issue of Redbook and on page 36 is has a small blurb about yasmin being linked to weightloss. Basically it is more likely to combat water weight gain if anyone has that problem which I know I have few days a month that I can't get into my jeans, even though I no longer have a period (hystorectomy). Anyone noticed this since using the Yasmin??

Yasmin acts like the diuretic spiroladactone,,,you are supposedly not as bloated,,,,BUT,,,,I have definately been more bloated and have gotten larger in just 1 week on Yasmin,,,so I don't believe that it makes you lose water weight, like they say. Maybe everyone's bodies acts differently with it. Cathy

I am breaking out a little with the yasmin... and my headaches have stopped.. But still moody <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/mad.gif" alt="" /> .. I can handle it for 2 more months though <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Hope my hubby can <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif" alt="" />

Hey Ladies, Have no fear, Dr. Atkins is here....sort of. I just tried the Atkins diet and lost 15 pounds in 3 weeks. And I'm metabolically resistant. About 2 years ago after I breastfed Adam and lost the weight I had gained on the protocols, I found myself undergoing round after round of ovum retrievals and other infertility things. My weight went up and up with each treatment. It was sooo depressing. I had done a diet through a clinic here in Montreal and lost 37 pounds before I had started the protocols. Now I was faced with another challenge but when I tried to use the old diet, I found that time had caught up with me and that I needed something more powerful. I saw Dr. Atkins on Larry King Live and subequently learned that several of my friends and family members were "doing Atkins" so I decided to try it. I'm not kidding, the weight just peeled off and I wasn't hungry one bit. I just had my 43rd birthday on Friday and my party Saturday night. People who had not seen me for 3 weeks were absolutely shocked at the difference 15 pounds can make. I did a more extreme version of the diet after running into a plateau the second week. But essentially you can eat meat, fish, poultry, lamb to satisfaction plus salad and veggies. No sugar, flour, cereal, baked goods, pasta and so on. Your carbs come from veggies. Butter, oil, bacon, mayonaise, heavy cream, olives, eggs are allowed. Margarine, milk, legumes for example are not allowed. Aspartame, caffeine, and fruits are to be avoided. The sweetener that is recommended is Sucralose which is actually Splenda. The basic idea is that eating fat and protein while limiting carbohydrates forecs your body to burn fat 24 hours a day. One way to know if it's working besides the scale is if your clothes start to feel bigger. You can test scientifically with lypolosis test strips that Dr. Atkins sells on his site. There's more to it but that's the essentials. I enjoyed my party, ate a bit of everything including my birthday cake and then went right back on the program. I'm hoping to lose a few more pounds just in case I have to start the protocol at the end of March. Lenore, Congrat's on the weight loss. I remained a size 5 on the Atkins for the last two years. After I went on the protocol I have gained 35 lbs. It is very hard to get into ketosis on the birth control pill, remember they are steroid hormones. Dr. Atkins describes a few meds in his book that will inhibit the ability to get into ketosis. HRT/bcp, steroids, some anti-depressants etc...are very hard to lose weight on. I am waiting until I am done weaning our next child before I even try to lose the weight. I will go back on the Atkins after all this. I have too many cravings on the bcp/domperidone . The only way I can lose and maintain my weight for the last 2 years was to stay at 20 grams a day or less...of carbs the whole time, otherwise I would have cravings. I also worked out for 2 hours a day on my days off and 1 hour a day working 12 hour shifts. Just thought I would let you know that most ladies on the protocol will not be able to get into ketosis. They can certainly do the maintanance phase of the plan, which is still limiting carbs. You can have berries...strawberries, blueberries, blackberries etc...great with heavy cream and Splenda. You can also have almonds for a snack etc,,,all while on maintanance, not the first two weeks of induction. If anyone has any questions about low carb lifestyle, let me know,,,like I said, I did it for two years and will continue with it once our daughter (who we do not have yet) is weaned.
