Hello Ladies, your assistance would be appreciated. I am inducing lactation to help my SO. Currently I am taking 20 mg of dom 4X per day, Fenugreek 1830 mg 3X per day, Blessed Thistle 1170 mg 3X per day, and drinking Traditional Medicinals Mothers Milk tea 3X per day with 3 drops per cup Fennel Seed oil in the tea. Also drinking water, and eating oatmeal every day.

For pumping I am using an older model Medela Pump in Style (10 years) that I purchased second hand. I am pumping every 3 hours during the day and once at night. The problem, I can only produce between a teaspoon or so up to maybe 1/4 - 1/3 of milk per session. Sometimes I will only get a few drops.

I think the problem is the pump, at times my breasts feel like they are still full. Today I began hand expression to empty them completely.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to increase production. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

yessca how long have you been following this protocol? How long are you pumping during each session and at what setting? You say you are inducing to help your SO. Is she currently pregnant or is the baby already here?
I have some specific ideas but need your info from you first. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hi Lalle, thanks for the reply that was very kind of you.

I have been on the protocol of dom and the herbs since June and added the tea last week. The meds and herbs have not been strictly followed because I would run out and there were periods until I could order more, no more than a couple of weeks. I have been back on both dom and the herbs for three weeks now, and the issue of running out of dom is gone because I have a good supply. Additionally, Yasmin was added but only for the month of July. I am going to add Goats Rue today based on info found on this board. I?m wondering if I will ever achieve full production because I change the protocol.

I began pumping 3 weeks after beginning the protocol with a manual pump then purchased the used PIS from Ebay in July. From July until November the pumping sessions have usually been 10 to 20 minutes with the PIS only 4 times a day because I was working full time. Now I am home with my SO and have been pumping every three hours with the old pump. The setting on the pump is at maximum. Since I?ve been hand expressing I have been getting more milk than with the pump.

Time is now of the essence as baby is here and breast milk is really needed.

You are very welcome. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Okay I would do the breast massage prior to pumping if you are not already then pump for 10 minutes on medium suction and then massage and pump for 10 more. You can still hand express after if you choose and is a good idea if you are still getting milk. You may want to purchase a new pump and if I was in the market for one I would buy the one that someone has listed in the buy/sell/trade forum. It is a limerick, very highly recommended. Also are you trying to latch baby on at all? Babies are much more efficient at getting milkout and thus increasing your supply than a pump. maybe you could nurse baby for comfort after partner gets done with a feeding. Is it right to assume she has a low supply? If so, what is she doing to boost her supply? Also how old is your baby?

Dear Yessica,

Thank you for your post and congratulations on your impending arrival.

It's important to understand that the protocols can only do so much. If you do not have efficient and frequent removal of the milk from the breasts, all your hard work will have been wasted. Birth mothers who do not efficiently remove the milk from their breasts, dry up. We explicitly state in our guide to the protocols that manual pumping is not up to the job and that it is vitally important for the mother to obtain an excellent dual electric breastpump.

The pump you are currently using does not fit this criteria because you would not be able to sustain maximum power for any length of time without tissue damage. It must be malfunctioning. Also, there has been vast improvement in pumps over the last 10 years. Kindly replace it as soon as possilble. This is not a time to be frugal. And besides, the money you save on supplementing with artificial infant milk will likely pay for your new pump.

There is one for sale here at an excellent price: http://www.asklenore.info/ubbthreads/sho...=1#Post86428624

You are not obligated to purchase it here, and the Ask Lenore website does not profit from any sales performed on our board, we are just the messenger. Alternatively you may contact the supplier directly joan.ortiz@limerickinc.com

The Limerick is a new pump with flexible breast shields that compress the breast as suction is applied. It's rated multiuser. If you're not happy with it, you can re-sell it but so far everyone who has used it and reported back have been happy with it. I was impressed with it when I tested it last year.

The goat's rue should be of some help as well.

Best,
