Hi..

I just started pumping last night. I stopped the Yasmin, am on the Dom but have not started the "herbs". My period did not start but I am definately NOT pregnant. I had some spotting up until I stopped the Yasmin.

Yesterday at my first pump I got about 3/4 of a teaspoon from my left breast and a couple of drops from my right. Since then I am getting a drop here and there from each breast.

I pumped at 4:30 this morning. I slept in a bra however it is not tight. I am putting warm towels on my breast prior to starting the pumping and am gently massaging. Is it normal for someone who has never been pregnant to experience a fair amount of colesterum then just have few drops here and there?

I am drinking lots of water and plan on picking up the herbs today.

Anything you can share will be appreciated.

Thanks,
M

I have never been pregnant, and did the protocol for 8 1/2 months. I had been spotting on the protocol, and did have a period when I came off the bcps. I didn't have what I considered significant amounts of breastmilk until about day 3 of pumping. And the amounts I pumped just escalated from there. It takes several days for the effects of the bcps to get out of your system, so if you are on day 2 of pumping, you still have the bcps in your system.
It is normal for the amounts you pump to flucuate, also. I always get more in my morning sessions than my afternoon and evening sessions.
I use a sleep bra, also. Are you using one designed for sleeping, or leisure time? I needed a sleep bra, because I would leak at night sometimes. I use the sleep bra to hold my nursing pads in place.
I think you will see an increase in the next few days. It just takes a little time. Are you pumping every 2 to 3 hours? I am only pumping 6 times a day. This works out to every 3 hours, with a 2 hour interval in there for one session. I don't pump at night right now, but we are not matched yet, either.
Keep us posted on your progress!

Hello,
What you are experiencing is premilk. As Dawn said, it takes a few days or more for the bcp to get out of your system How long did you do the protocol for? Are you going to start the herbs also? Cathy

Hi,

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

I was on the protocol for 34 days. Tonight I got about a half of a teaspoon on my left breast. It was not as thick as it was yesterday and today.

I am planning on starting the herbs in the morning.

I will keep you guys posted.

Thanks for your support.
M

Hello M,
The accelerated protocol does not seem to produce as high a milk supply as the long regular protocol in most women. Keep up with the pumping, herbs and domperidone. I am sure the other ladies will chime in here, but I think the average for the accel. protocol is that you will make about 1/2 the supply your baby will need. You can supplement with donor milk, formula, or your milk that you save in the freezer. Even though you are only making tsp now, you can save this in a syringe and freeze it. The premilk is very nutritious. Keep us posted and keep on pumping! take care, Cathy

Thanks for the syringe suggestion. I honesty never thought of keeping the milk because there is so little.

Today is day three for pumping; I have had an accumulation of about a half of an ounce today.

Should I boil the syringes before using them?

Should I refrigerate the milk then freeze it in a syringe at the end of the day? Can I freeze multiple syringes at a time? Should I use a food saver to freeze the milk?

When I am ready to feed Star would I thaw the milk out in the syringe?

I have a bit of a cold. Should I wait till I am completely over it before freezing the milk?

If I have a cold and feed the baby my milk isn?t there a greater chance that I will pass my cold on to her?

Anything that you can share with this future first time mom will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
M

Hi, just thought I'd chime in.

Breastmilk is anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial. It contains phagocytic cells that chase down pathogens and destoys them. Breastmilk can even sit at room temperature for 8 hours if need be. It can stay in the fridge for about a week. So save EVERY drop. It's like liquid gold. When you're ready to feed your daugher, just either thaw in the fridge or thaw under running room temp water. Never thaw in the microwave, can cause "hot spots".

When preparing to freeze breastmik, it's best to refrigerate it first and then freeze. You can wait until the day's pumping is done or you can freeze it in the morning when you get up. To freeze 1/2 oz or 1 oz portions you can use the Playtex bottle liners that come in a roll of 100 I think for less than $4. Use two, one inside the other, leave a space for expansion, roll down the top and staple shut. Don't forget to mark the date, time, and amount on the plastic. Once you have accumulated a few of these in the freezer, you can put them in a large Ziplock Freezer bag and mark them with the month or week and so on.

1/2 oz per day is EXCELLENT. When I started I only had 1/8 of a tsp for the longest time and I did the Regular Protocol. You're doing great! Keep up the good work.

Fondly,

Great news everyone! I pumped a little over a half of an ounce today! Can you believe it? I was only on the protocol for 35 days and have only been pumping for a week.

You guys are sooooo inspiring! <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif" alt="" />
