Lenore or any of you who may know. When is it okay to begin a weightloss program? I would like to start counting calories and eating under 1200 a day so I can lose weight. My baby is 15 months and only nurses about 3 times a day. He eats all people foods and drinks juice, water, and whole milk too. Will cutting back on my calories effect my supply at this point? Or are there any other weight loss suggestions out there? I need to lose about 30 more pounds to feel good in my skin again. I have lost about 25 since he was born. Thanks in advance. <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

You could keep your calories up, but eliminate processed foods like sugars and starches.

When you're nursing, it's important that you still eat fat because otherwise your body will burn your fat in the milk. That sounds like a good idea, but your fat is where toxins are stored, and your baby then gets more junk than he should.

If you eat meat, vegetables, nuts, plain yoghurt, fruit, and lots of water, your fat intake and calories are still high enough, but those junky calories like sugar and refined starches are missing. You could go down to the 1200-cal level if you were eating the right foods, and lose weight that way.

This was my experience and what I've learned in taking LC courses.

thanks Kerri, I am currently eating a higher protein lower carb ie. healthy carbs diet. I have a whey protein shake in the morning. I sometimes eat a scrambled egg burrito in a low carb tortilla with cheese for breakfast. I snack on string cheese during the day and I drink lots of water. I eat a regular dinner and that is where I get my veggies but not nearly enough of them. I don't use sugar at all only Splenda and I don't eat anything made with white flour or processed food. I also don't eat potatoes, only on rare occasions (french fries). I was thinking of the counting calories plan so that I could get more fruits and veggies in. I have a cook book that is based on a daily 1200 calories. I could also add flax oil to my shake and that would help with the good fats. WHat do you think?

I've low-carbed and been able to keep calories at 1200. It shouldn't be too hard to do. Flax oil is a good idea! Snacking on low-carb veges like cucumber, celery, radishes, etc. with dip would include veges and provide a good fat (eg. mayo or sourcream with seasonings.) It's true that protein and fats and fibre fill us up more, so stick with those, and Good luck!

I'm the opposite in that I'm hoping to lose weight when nursing the next one. I was down to 125 with Adam nursing fulltime and have gained it back pound by pound since he stopped nursing, even with eating the same. I need another baby! LOL

Thanks again Kerri, those are some great ideas. I never think about snacking on veggies with dip. Yum!!! I just always think of having them with a meal. I am heading to the store so I will pick some up.
Too funny about needing another baby. (after I lose some more weight I will think about another one) How are things going on #3?
