Hi everyone!

I have a friend who has a hospital grade Ameda pump she is selling - she paid over $300 and is selling it for $100. Anyone have any experience with this pump - is it any good? I really don't have the money for a new pump - any ideas?

From what I understand, no one who used the Ameda Pumps to induce lactation did well with them. They are hard to assemble and they pinch. The hospital grade one is big and heavy and not portable and not always set up for double pumping. I think Nona had one of these and traded it for a Medela Pump in Style.

The Limerick pump is the one that is now recommended. It's available through joan.ortiz@limerickinc.com

Ok - thanks! I hadn't heard too much about them but just wanted to confirm. The Limerick however is $225 US (I am in canada) plus shipping so it's way out of my price range! I'll have to make due with the pump in style which you can find on ebay for a good price. Or - if anyone knows of anyone who is selling a Limerick - please let me know!

Also - does anyone know why you need a password, etc to view Limerick products? I have one now but am just curious! Thanks,

Why don't you email Lenore? She is in Canada too and may have a way for ordering that is more cost efficient.
Definitely get the Limerick if you can. If not then you are correct the PIS is the way to go.
I saw a limerick on ebay awhile back and it was under $200 so search there too.

The limerick pump is rated multiple user and hospital grade so you can re-sell it when you're done.....

The PIS is neither rated hospital grade (due to the type of plug) or multiple user.

The reason for the username and password is that the Limerick pumps are not widely available yet. But if you let Joan know that you're coming from here, she'll do her best to make one available to you. Note that I do not work for this company or receive any renumeration from them.

I just did an Ebay search and the majority of PIS that are for sale and are NEW (like Lenore said you don't want used) are right around $200 or more plus $20 something shipping. You really would be better off to get the limerick.
Also I think you buy stuff from Ebay as is, so if there is a problem you are just out $$$

Actually - ebay has a lot of protection with the PayPal system, and if stuff doesn't arrive in the condition they claimed it will be in Paypal will issue you a full refund and then hunt down the seller for you!!!

I have seen the PIS for around $100 on ebay - and like I said - it's not an option - I don't have $300 to spend on a pump (with taxes, shipping, exchange) , but I wll keep an eye out for a used Limerick on ebay or elsewhere - i don't need it right away (although hopefully soon!) . Thanks for the info on the Aveda though - you guys saved me some money and some frustration!

What I mean is be careful. Some sellers sell as is. Others have a return policy of like 3 days. If you buy your pump new there is a year warranty on the motor etc... So paying a few bucks less is not always the best deal.
Since you can resell the limerick would it be possible to start saving now for it?

Are the Limerick pumps really that much better than the PIS? I have not used a pump before - so i really value your opinion - and i am VERY committed to making this work - so if you guys really thinks it worth it I'll try the Limerick (but look for a second hand one on ebay <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />)....

Yes. Several mothers have tested the Limerick including me and we've all been very happy with it. Another thing to consider, is that used pumps on Ebay can harbor harmful bacteria. So unless the previous user is willing to take an HIV test among other things....it's not the best idea. The Limerick has a filter, not available on any other pump. So the internal mechanism is protected. Then the new own just needs a new kit and they are on their way!!

Do yourself a favor and purchase the Limerick new because there have been some modifcations at my suggestion (no, I wasn't paid) that are worth the extra money and again, when you're done you can re-sell it.

Ok - you've talked me into it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I'll try and purchase a Limerick pump...

But - I just need to add this to avoid others being scared - I am an HIV/AIDS Policy Advisor for the government and HIV does NOT survive nor reproduce outside the body so it would be impossible to contract HIV due to breastmilk residue on a pump. If anyone wants research to back this up just pm me...however, other bacteria I am not aware of - so point taken - I'll save my pennies and see what I can do...thanks for all the very helpful info.

Ive been using the Limerick for about 2 days today would be my 3rd day and I do really like it. It is comfortable.

Argh! I just purchased and opened my Medela Pump n Style... just my luck! I didn't know about the Limerick until today...

If you haven't used it you could return it I think. If not you can sell it on Ebay.

I really like the Limerick. When I was using the Medela I was getting real sore with the Limerick I do not get any sores.

I have now looked into the Limerick and the problem is that it does not come with battery pack - I will be travelling for a month or so with mine and will need the battery pack. they sell it seperately, but that adds another $75 to the price.
