I just wanted to comment on my experience with eating oatmeal...I am inducing lactation for my soon to be adopted daughter (due in 4 weeks) I have been eating oatmeal at least every other morning and oatmeal cookies at least once every day....I have worked up to expressing about 2 ounces per day........I have not had my oatmeal in two days (including the cookies) and my supply dropped dramatically!! I believed the oatmeal worked, but wow, that was a big drop, I only expressed, maybe 1/2 ounce all day yesterday!! The only thing changed was the oatmeal!! Just thought I'd let you all know how benefitial oatmeal has obviously been for me!!

Thanks for such a wonderfully supportive site!!

Jenn,
Great to know! I took my last BCP pill today, and plan to begin pumping tomorrow morning. To help me kick-start the pump, I planned a full week of menus that incorporate oatmeal. I got some great recipes from Quaker.com. Tonight we had Dilled Salmon Cakes (with oatmeal mixed into the salmon), and tomorrow night we're having meatloaf that contains oatmeal. I'm off to go mix up a batch of oatmeal and peanut butter no-bake cookies. I'll let you know if it helps after I get going with my pumping.

I, too, am eating my oatmeal faithfully. Just got some oatmeal cookies to snack on too. Just curious though: does anyone know if there is any harm in just eating a TB or 2 of oatmeal without cooking it? Seems a faster way to get more... but I don't know if it is good for me... any ideas?

eating oatmeal raw will not hurt you at all. You can even throw some in a smoothy in the mornings.
