I know we are not supposed to take the sugar pills in our BCP pack. So that means we only get 21 active pills in a pack. I got a Rx for 2 packs. So... I am doing the accelerated protocol... does that mean I just take the 42 active pills in a row, or buy a 3rd pack to take a total of 63?

I used Diane-35 (which is no longer the protocol pill) for 4 weeks to start.. so 3 weeks form the first pack, and a week from the second pack.

I didn't have much luck with pumping, so Lenore has me taking another 30 days of hormones.

I guess I am not much help.. all I know is the longer on the pill, the better! And be sure to toss those sugar pills! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I thought I'd post in here because my question regards the bcp. My insurance only covers 1bcp per month and I will obviously need 1 and 1/4 packs per month.
My 1st question: Where should I purchase extra bcp at the best price?
My 2nd question: Is Necon 1/35 the same as ortho 1/35 because I asked my Dr. to order ortho 1/35 and the pharmacist gave me Necon 1/35?
Thanks! Sandra

I don't know where to tell you to purchase your other pills, but as for the brand: I got a substitution from my Dr. too, (and I am new so hopefully a more experienced person will answer you also) and I think as long as it has the correct amount of norethindone and ethinyl estradiol ???

Sandra,
Is your gyn supportive of you doing the protocol? If so, they may give you some samples to make up for what your insurance doesn't cover. The online pharmacies will probably be fairly pricey and since your doc probably gets a ton of them for free, call and see if they'll share with you.

Good luck!

not super-supportive. I'm not even going to ask her. I'll keep my fingers crossed that someone has some extra and if not, then I'll just order some from the internet. Thanks for your replies! Sandra

Hi everyone,
New here and gathering info for the menopausal protocol. I have Yasmin as a BCP and wondered should I take the sugar pills? Thank's to this thread I now know to toss them out. I have some time before I start the protocol and any guides into what else may be useful is appreciated.
Thank's in advance,
Christina

Hi Everyone,

The equivalent birth control pills are listed in the guide to the protocols that you can print out from here: http://www.asklenore.com/breastfeeding/print/induced_lactation/protocols4print.html

Ortho 1/35 and Necom 1/35 are equivalent. Yasmin is a differenct bcp that is used for the acelerated and menopause protocols but Ortho 1/35 works well too.

We don't take the sugar pills because we are trying to simulate the hormones present during pregnancy. No periods during pregnancy and so we don't take the sugar pills.

Hope this helps. Warmest regards,
