What's the longest time you can/should stay on the regular protocol safely? Thanks! Sandra Martin

I am not an expert but I was on the protocol for over year and I decided to get off of it b/c I didnt like the weight I had gained! I have been off of it now about 3 months and I have been pumping about 4 times a day <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> and I wish I would have stayed on the protocol.... I think actually the longer you are on it the better results you have...... Just my opionon

Maybe someone else can help-- I think you can be on it as long as you choose to be on it.

Sorry that I haven't posted for a while...have been trying to keep life busy so that the wait doesn't kill me. I asked the same question about a month ago, as I have been on the regular protocol since September and still have no babe in sight. Lenore told me that she has known of people being on the protocol for up to a year with no harmful reprecussions. And I can't remember if it was her or some one else, maybe even my GP who pointed out that both the BCP and the domperidone medications are developed for long term 'treatments' so taking them for more than a year shouldn't be a concern. As long as you can stand the weight gain. It didn't bother me before, but now that it looks like it may be the new year before we have a baby in hand, I am starting to want my old figure back - even just for the summer! But I agree with the other response I would say that the longer you're on it the better development you'll acheive. I am at the point now where I lead pretty much constantly, especially when I hold a baby! Even the sound of a cryng child, or when I'm feeling emotional....sometimes when I'm hungry, and that just started about two months ago. But I"m thinking that when the year mark comes I'm going to start pumping and hopefully shed a few pounds. I'm sure that it will take a while to pump enough to freeze but then I'll be that much more ahead of the game!
Keep your chin up...I'll try and post more often...hopefully my long term usage will serve as support to others who are mothers forever waiting like me...

Hi Laura,

I've been on domperidone now for over 2 years. I also had some weight issues. What I did was increase my protein and decrease my carbohydrates. That helped me a lot. Every now and then I also do a Master Cleanser Fast. That's good to knock off a few pounds depending on how long you do it for. Here's the link to the Guide to the Master Cleanser Fast: http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/7244/master_cleanse.html And here is the link to the forums where you can talk with other people doing the fast: http://curezone.com/forums/f.asp?f=478&t=37426

Note that I don't do the laxative thing and I don't do the salt bath because frankly, they can leave you incontinent (running to the bathroom all day). I use the cleanse as a diet, not as a cleanser.

Once you go on it, you can't really eat anything until you go off it and you must follow the instructions for getting back to regular food. You need to drink orange juice the first day back to regular food and I buy a vegetable soup at the health food store and slowly get back into eating. This diet has knocked 20 pounds off me and each time I did it for a month.

This is also how I discoved the value of maple syrup and it's effect on milk supply. I found that while on this diet, my milk supply did not go down...it went up. I later, when I could eat again I added maple syrup to my oatmeal and again my milk supply went up. Ethan is 20 months old and still breastfeeding.

Hope this helps. Warmest regards,
