Hi All,

I posted about a week ago. I was expecting to adopt a baby on July 15th and had just started pumpin after the accelerated protocol. My husband and I found out yesterday that the adoption is not going to happen. We are devastated. I wonder if I should continue pumping (I just purchased and have been using the Limerick pump that Lenore suggested), or if I should go back on the protocol??? Any answers??

Dear Dedicated,

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. We're all grieving with you.

Most mothers in your situation get back on the protocol without pumping.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Best,

Hi Lenore,
Thanks for the kind words. I guess it's okay then to stop pumping and go back on the protocol? I was just starting to get more than just a few drops while pumping. I love the Limerick pump you recommended. We are trying for another adoption, and have no idea how fast it will happen. I just want to get the best result, so if that means being on the protocol longer then I'm willing. Will I loose what I have managed to build up? I originally started the protocol with Ortho Novum 1/35, then switched to Yasmin on 5/26/06. I started pumping on June 16th. I suppose I should go back to the Yasmin and stop taking my herbs when I restart the protocol?

Hi D.

You won't lose anything by staying on the protocol. It tends to build breast tissue faster than pumping and domperidone alone. So don't worry, just stop pumping and get back on the protocol.

Best,

So sorry to hear of your loss, dedicated. All of us who have been through the adoption process know how tenuous and emotionally risky it is. We had two fall through at various stages, and I know how much it hurts. I can tell you it's worth it when you finally do find the child(ren) who are meant to be yours! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> We are just waiting for our court date now.

Thanks for the kind words, and for sharing your experiences. I was feeling so alone. It seems like a cruel joke that not only have I had to deal with infertility, but now, I can't even have a smooth adoption. I'm glad to hear that you have the right baby for you. Maybe I'll get there someday too.

Hi Dedicated:
{{{{{{BIG HUG}}}}}}
I know how stressful and sad that situation was that you just went through. We went through a failed adoption, too. We paced the hospital floor for 3 days after she recovered from a c-section and her family worked on her to keep it. I ended up donating my frozen breastmilk supply.

Be kind to yourself and take time for some relaxing activities like going to a movie, a hike, out to dinner, read a good book, watch a comedy video.

We are now proud parents of two beautiful girls that we had success in adopting. It makes the years of infertility and failed adoption a distant memory. And I enjoyed a wonderful breastfeeding experience with my second one.

There is hope for you that the end of your journey is coming soon. FIngers crossed that this is it.
