Hi! I haven't been here for a while and I wanted to check in. I'm still breastfeeding my adopted triplets. They are almost eight months old now, and it is actually much easier than it was in the beginning. For the first four or five months they ate very slowly, so I'd sometimes be nursing for a couple of hours straight, then have half an hour or so break and have to start again. Now each one finishes in about ten minutes, so even if I nurse them one at a time I'm done in about half an hour and they go at least four hours between feedings. They do not get formula, but they do eat cereal and fruits/veggies once or twice a day.

After all that trouble to get one of my docs to listen to me about Ritalin, it turns out I can't take it anyway because of my heart condition. I have not, however, had a recurrence of the Lupus/whatever-it-is, and it may be that the breastfeeding is supressing it. My new Rheumatologist actually suspects that rather than Lupus it may have been a transient virus and I could be over it. I hope this turns out to be the case, since I have the three year old and three eight month olds to care for.

The babies are all teething and crawling, and absolutely normal developmentally. Now that we're almost through the first year, and I can say I've truly survived my induction into "triplethood," things are starting to go back to normal, I have more time for myself, definitely more sleep, and generally feel more human and less zombie-like. I adore my children, but there is no way I would want to relive those first hard months!

All in all my whole family is doing wonderfully, our adoption was finalized last Saturday, and I am so glad I made the choice to breastfeed. As difficult as it was at times, it was absolutely worth it. I hope to continue for at least another year!
