Has anyone else experienced leg cramps while on the protocol? I've had some doozies! Youch!

I have been on the regular protocol for five months this week. I sometimes get the foot cramps in the middle of the night, sometimes during waking hours. I didn't have this many when I was pg!

Could it be from the birth control? Some women get blood clots from it... usually pain in their legs....

Now that you mention it...YES! When I wake up for the 3am pump & in am upon waking when I stretch, I get these cramps in my calves...which I NEVER had before the protocol! Not bad, though, like you describe. Could our potassium levels be affected by protocol?

so you're pumping... so you must be off the bcp's then obviously, so i dont think it could be that.... potassium levels can cause leg cramps..... not sure if the meds can do it though.... maybe Lenore or someone will pipe in and help u out with this one

I doubt that it has to do with the birth control pills. Your potassium might be out of whack which causes leg and foot cramps. Try eating a couple of bannanas a day and see if this helps.

I think I would agree, but I've only ever gotten these cramps the two times I've been pregnant, and now. I'm wondering if they have something to do with hormones when they occur in pg or if it is potassium depletion then too.

I got these as well while I was on the protocol...bananas worked for me though, just one a day pretty much took care of that problem.

Hi Ladies,

Unfortunately leg cramps have been reported by some women while on the protocols. Are you taking a daily baby aspirin? And can you obtain some Cal-K? That's a potassium/calcium supplement that seems to work wonders for leg cramps. But as with any leg cramps a deep vein thrombosis needs to be ruled out. Kindly discuss this with your doctor.

best, Lenore

Thank you Lenore! I will most certainly make an appt and ask her. I also need to see her to renew my Rx for dom so it works out nicely.
