I am planning to relactate for an anticipated adoption. I am going to be following the regular protocol. I was just wondering if it is necessary to stay on the Domperidone for the entire time that I am breastfeeding. I would appreciate any experiences that you would like to share.

When I e-mailed Dr. Newman about this question, he said that it would be best to stay on it at least until the baby is getting most of their nutrition from solid foods. So at least a year. He said you could try weaning at that point.

The last time I weaned down from 120mg to 90 mg at 11 months. I didn't totally wean off the dom until I weaned my daughter at 18 months. I did stop taking the fenugreek around 12 months.

Thanks Jennifer,
That helps with planning ahead. I start the protocol in a month!

My son is 16 months old and I am still breastfeeding and taking the Dom. 20mg x 4 a day. I'm afraid to come off of it. No side effects from the Dom. Had severe diarrhea early on.

My daughter is 17 months and I am on 20 mg 2 times a day. I am just going to slowly wean down until I run out of dom (probably another month or two). I will probably wean soon after that.
