This time on the protocol is a lot more productive. Okay.. those of you who do not know my history. I am one of the VERY FEW who did not respond well to the accelorated protocol. Actually.. i think I am the only one who was limited with it. For my history. About a 1 1/2 years ago.. I did the accelorated protocol for 30 days. I pumped for a month...Collected what I pumped which was only drops.I collected it in a syringe. After a month.. I only collected 1 tsp! So I went on another 30 days. After about 4 months of constant pumping I got to 2 ounces a day. But I Never went over that. I was just not a good responder. Well I finally decided to do the regular protocol. I was on it for 5 1/2 months. I started pumping 2 weeks ago. The first five days I only got drops as the estrogen left my system. Then the 6 th day I pumped half an ounce. It has gradually increased to 2 ounces.. which was my max after pumping for months before. Yesterday I went over 2 ounces.. so I am on my way. I have to say I am very happy this time. If I can finally get a supply going anyone can! I have noticed that my milk is a lot creamier and an orange tint to it this time. Compared to it being really watery looking and thin before. I have not started the herbs or oatmeal as of yet. Nor am I really drinking much water. I know if I do all of these it will probably increase faster. But its a busy week so I will probably start it next couple of weeks. But when Lenore says" Fantastic"
to me she really means it! we have been through so much in the past. Now I have been pumping with the PIS. But I am in a study Lenore has been conducting about how well the whittlestone works. Now that I am pumping... I will be switching over to the whittlestone this next week and see if I have a quick increase in my milk. This way we will know really how well the whittlestone works. I will keep all of you informed.

I had a slow start like you're describing when I started pumping, but after going for 3-4 weeks of pumping, I was getting 2 oz. a session, which was about right. I see all these women on here who are seeing milk right away, but it took me about five days to see drops, then it increased from there. So I would say you're having great results too! Congratulations!

Thanks Kerri! I was completely shocked today. I took a shower and was drying off. I felt something funny. I looked down and I was leaking milk all down my stomach! I have had quarter size spots on my shirt before. But never leaking down my stomach I freeze my milk in 2 ounce plastic bottles. And I noticed yesterdays milk I froze has changed. I know now I am on to mature milk. All the milk I have collected up til yesterdays was orange looking. My first milk I am now sure. And yesterdays was white and creamy. So it is as Lenore has said before. After 10 days we have mature milk like birth mothers do. An it was right on schedule.... at about 10 days. And another thing I realized. I was having a warm pinchy tingling going on. And it happened several times in the past few days. It turns out I am actually having letdowns! I can feel them. I paid attention to when it happens. Its like clock work when I need to pump. I can look at the clock.. and sure enough its time. This is all a whole new ball of wax for me But I must say.. .for me personally.. I finally feel like something more than a failure. Oh another note. We met with another surrogate today. It looks really good

I totally know what you mean!

I remember posting my journey on the protocol on the ABRW and saying the same things you're saying. I couldn't believe it was working, because it hadn't worked that well the first time. I had a good experience using the SNS with Cole, but it was nothing like leaking and getting engorged with Adam.

It was a miracle to me, and I remember crying when I dropped a big old spot of milk on my knee when I got out of the shower and sat on the toilet! It was my birthday and Adam's due date (he was born 3 days later) and I remember thinking it was God's birthday present to me. I couldn't believe I could leak like a real woman! (Of course, people got mad at me for saying that, but I'd not felt like much of a real woman before then.)

I feel your joy! I wonder if you have a similar hormonal situation to me? Because we have had very similar experiences. I'd like to know how you do with the Whittlestone.

Nona, I am so excited for you! You are on your way! That's wonderful, how quickly it increased to the 2 ounces. I am sure you will steadily see increases. Please keep us posted. I am so happy to have others pumping at the same time as me!

Nona,
I am close to tears reading about your situation. I only hope I can do as well when I start pumping. We have all been through so much. I pumped the other day just to see and I have a large drop of dark brown thick liquid from the right after about 5 seconds of pumping and an ever so small drop from the left. The bcp is really suppressing me,,,Lenore said the fact I can get the drops is good while still on the bcp.
April 12th I run out of the Yasmin,,,3 days short of six months. I am still debating ordering more or not..our paperwork is held up at the Guatemalan Embassy so no baby in site yet, should just be a few more weeks till our referral though. I found the most adorable 2 year old boy also from Guat, but my hubby is not too thrilled with the financial aspects of 2 more. We are trying to see if we can afford it somehow without taking a loan. Please let us know how the Whittlestone works for you,,,,I bought a voltage converter to use with a pump so I can bring one to GU. If the Whittlestone works great for you, I will rent one, but I have spent so much money so far on the meds and the PIS I paid close to three hundred dollars for..money is an issue right now. I am so happy for you,,,orange milk huh,,,I bet your baby to be will love it!! Good luck with the insems,,,,take care Cathy

I would NOT do the protocol again if i were you. You are having fantastic results now! What you are getting is not all that is in your breast. Your baby will be the best extracter of all. And remember you can always use a suplimenter. I would not even think of doing the protocol again if I were you. I am so happy for you with your results

Kerri,
I remember when you posted on the other site about your being on the protocol and I remember the flack you got for it. I was not aware you had done the protocol more than once! We are so such alike in our progress. I was not aware of it. But you give me great confidence. You had a full supply. How long were you on it the first time?

Cathy,
I look forward to the day you are pumping with us. I have 25 yasmin I will give you if you decide to stay on it longer. I was on it 5 1/2 months and if I am correct Kerri was on it 4 1/2 months. And she had a full supply. If you decide to continue on let me know.

Nona,
Way to go! I am glad that you are progressing as well as you are. Isn't it great to see our bodies respond in such a positive way. After not being able to even get pregnut I am thrilled that my body has been able to do so well on the protocols. May you continue to do so well. On Thursday of this week I too will start pumping. Your post encourages me and makes me less nervous to start pumping. I hope that I have as good of results as all of you. Keep up the good work.

Take Care,
Bella

M,
Nona is most certainly right, starting the protocol again would set you back. The birth control pill suppresses milk production, so you would lose the strides you have gained.
Remember, it only takes 4 ounces a day for the baby to get all the immune benefits and you are almost there! Also, the baby nursing will extract much more milk than you get out with the pump. Keep up the good work,,,take care, Cathy

Thanks for the offer Nona, I may have to take you up on it, our paperwork is still being held up at the Embassy and we have not received our INS letter after 3.5 months of waiting.
Everything always takes longer than expected. I will e-mail you with my address,,,thanks alot, and I am sooooo happy with your results! Take care, Cathy

Cathy,
I really need to give the whittlestone a chance. I get frustrated with it. I know my breasts need to get used to it verses the PIS. But I can pump 15 minutes with the whittlestone and get a few drops. Where as I can use the PIS and get 1/2 ounce of milk right away. My milk is really slow to build. I am 6 weeks pumping and am almost at 4 ounces a day now. I really want to wait until I get a better supply before using only the whittlestone for a few days. I am just afraid at this point.. Since I am not getting anything out with it. I don't want to loose my supply trying it out for a few days.. Does that make sense?

Hello,
Nona, it sounds like the Whittlestone is not working well for you now. I agree to use both to make sure you are draining your breasts well. I know your supply is slowly building, but 4 ounces a day is great. I had only pumped drops in the past, so to me 4 ounces seems like alot.
Hang in there...any news on a new surrogate?

No the surrogacy thing hasn't worked out for us. So we are looking into adoption again. She had messed up cycles and couldn't get pregnant. And most others want alot more money than we can afford. But we have a chance on a baby girl going to be born in July. Of course nothing for sure.

I pumped 5 ounces today! I am doing a few extra things to help it all along. I have been only doing extras for 2 days. And I jumped to 5 ounces. If it continues to build doing what I am doing. I will then post it. Hey Lenore!!! Great isn't it??!!

I am sooo happy for you! And a possible baby in July, that is great. I am trying to do the last 17 days to make it seven months, but my right ankle is starting to get pretty swollen, my left slightly,,so I think I better get off the meds pretty soon. I hope I do as well as you...take care, Cathy

okay,
I am pumping 6 ounces a day now! And I have been so busy I can only get about 4 pumps in a day. So I can imagine how much more it will build if I do more . Oh and on the adoption front. Its really iffy right now. The BM wants us to have the baby. But her mother wants it. Theres a good possiblility the Grandmother will get it and not us. Pray for us pleaseeeeeeeee! Baby to be born in July.

Hi Nona,

OMG!!!!! I am soooo excited. This is GREAT! And only 4 pumpings per day!!! Imagine the possibilities if you pumped 8 times per day. You are on your way girl!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I'm hoping and praying that the adoption goes your way.

okay I upped my pumping to 2 to 2 1/2 hours. In 3 days I am now up to just under 7 ounces! It may not be a ton. But its a lot for me. Considering I couldn't get hardly anything before.

Congrat's Nona,
Are you still using both the Whittlestone AND the PIS together? Besides the vitamins and lecithin, what else are you doing? I am still stuck at about 2 cc per 24 hours. Thanks, Cathy

actually I think what did it for me.. the jump to 8 in 1 day is I upped my water intake and I pump double pump for a full 30 minutes every 2 1/2 hours. But no pumping at nighyt.I am only using my PIS. I haven't tried the whittlestone again... I need to but haven't.

Thanks Nona,
I am already pumping 8x a day, I drink to thirst, which usually is at least 2 quarts of water a day, plus one decaf sugar free soda and one cup of 1/2 strength coffee. I also have a cup of herbal tea. I even pumped every two hours for 24 hours straight and only got 2.3 cc total for 12 pumpings. I guess I am not made to make breast milk. Funny, both my sisters made ton's of milk, dripping down their shirts and down thier chests. My head nurse had a 3 month old and she is pumping 10 ounces in one sitting...she is going to start donating me any extra milk she has for me to put in my freezer.
My last rsort is to try the Whittlestone in addition to the PIS. I am also on the waiting list to rent a Lactina. My nipples hurt alot, so I am hoping the Whittlestone will be easier on them. But, we may have a baby girl as early as next week, so I am running out of time to increase my supply. I thought giving myself one month of pumping would be all I would need.
I am so glad you are doing well, we all appreciate your expertise in so many area's. Thanks, Cathy

Nona,
Just wanted to send you a hip hip hooray! Keep up the good work. By the way I tried your suggestion of squeezing on the sides of the horn and it works great.

Curious about donating milk. What are some of the guidelines? I am not always good about sterilizing everyday. Do the moms boil the milk before they use it? If I get a full supply before my baby comes I think that I may want to look into this possibility. I think that it would be hard to use up all the milk for my baby if I already had a full supply. At this point I want to wait until my supply builds and also to see if we get a baby soon. Also who pays for the shipping those who donate or those getting the milk? Any thoughts you had would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bella

Bella,
No the mommies don't boil the milk. Just normal cleanliness is fine. Everything doesn't have to be sterilized. If you donate. .. The mommy will send you a cooler with a fedex number. You would fill the cooler to the top with milk and send it back to her overnight shipping with the fedex number she supplies. You do NOT need to put dry ice on it. I have sent tons of milk without it ... and it stays frozen like a rock. The mommy will even replace the bags you use. So your not out anything
