WOW~ Came here to ask the same question about Shatavari. I have been reading more and more about it and wondered if anyone had anything to comment.

Hopefully someone some information and we'll learn something new.

Also, you can do a Google search with the terms "Shatavari lactation" and come up with many sites. I was just wondering if it would be good to start on that and Goat's Rue while waiting on the domperidone.

I know domperidone is also used in treating gastric disorders... does anyone know its affect on gallbladder disease and spastic colon (also known as IBS)? Looks like it might actually be helpful, but I'm a little wary, nonetheless.

I have heard Lenore mention Shatavari. But I don't really have any info on it. Redhorn I am also not sure about the type of BCP you are planning to take. The recommended are Ortho 35 or Yasmin they need to have the right mix of hormones in them.

I would love to have Lenores input on this. When she has the time to pop in and chat. Oh Lenore my dear come out come out where ever you are????

What about Microgestin, is that ok? It's listed under the accelerated protocol I believe. Is Microgestin the generic form of Loestrin? I do also have an Rx for the progesterone 'mini-pill' if I need extra progesterone. I am not sure if my doc will give me a script for Yasmin.

Does anyone know which Microgestin BCP is suggested for the protocol? I have some Microgestin 1/20 on hand but I'm not sure if it's the right one. I admit I am a bit scared to try Yasmin after all the side effects I've read that it can cause. I am not sure how my body will react to it. I have a history of terrible migraines. I am open to taking Microgestin with extra progesterone if need be, and taking Shatavari with it until the domperidone arrives. Any suggestions?

the 20on the Microgestin BCP is not enough. This one is 1/20 you need 1/35. This one does not have enough estrogen.

Shatavari is an herb popular in India I believe that some are using in place of domperidone for those who cannot obtain it. But it does not replace domperidone as the actions of each are different.

Loestrin doesn't contain the same progesterone as Ortho 1/35 or Yasmin which are still our recommended choices. Lately Ortho 1/35 seems to be providing more consistent results but some moms prefer yasmin.

So grateful you added your comments on the Shatavari. I have a sensitive stomach and am thinking of bypassing the Fenugreek. Would you feel that Shatavari might replace the fenugreek? If not, is there another alternative?

Hello Lenore, nice to meet you! Thank you so much for your reply. I ordered some domperidone from clickremedy.com, now just have to wait until it gets here. Shatavari sounds like a wonderful herb, too. I have a women's annual this week so I will talk to the doc about switching my BC to Yasmin. And in the mean time I have Goat's Rue to help start building up my mammary glands. Thanks so much ladies for all the replies!

Make sure that when you take the Yasmin you throw out the sugarpills and only take the active pills. You want to be on the bcp for straight for the time you are on the protocol until you stop and add the herbs. You also need to use a different form of birth control if you might become pregnant. The Yasmin in the protocol is not used to prevent pregnancy but to mimic it.

Hi, new here. Brought home a baby on the 4th that was a safe surrender baby at a hospital. Going forth with adoption now. Started the SNS 1 1/2 weeks ago and fenugreek 1 week ago and Shatavari the next day. (It took me 2 weeks to find someone who would help me get some info. and then work with me for adoptive bf.)

Does anyone know how much Shatavari to take? I started with the same as fenugreek, but my LC just read 2 a day, so I cut back to that today, but not really sure. Any thoughts? I too am waiting on the dom to arrive and plan on getting a scrip for BCP on Thurs. The nursing has been really painful as the LC just left and said she is suckling like she's drinking from a straw and we worked on her latch too. It is really difficult with the tube and getting the latch right. I've nursed to bio kids a year or more, but this is a whole new ballgame. Trying to stay positive, but it's hard.

I've also been told that since I've nursed to bio kids for a good amount of time my glandular tissue is already built up and I don't need to take a BCP as that is what it does. Again, what does anyone think about that?

Well that is not exactly true. It takes a few months but your breasts DO go back to prenursing state. The tissues do not all stay. Getting on the BCPs for awhile would be good. When your baby goes to latch. Pull her chin down. It will open the mouth up. Then quickly put your breast in the mouth. This will help insure you get your nipple to the back of your babies mouth

You can view lots of videos here in the breastfeeding link up top and Dr. Newman has many on his site as well. I had to tape the tube to my nipple. I had previous breastfeeding experience as well. I didn't know about threading the tube in after latching but that is worth a try as well. That is how Dr. Newman shows it.
