We are in the adoption process, no baby on the horizon yet, and I wanted to go ahead and start birth control now for female issues. When I am on the re-lactating protocol, am I on the pill for 6 consecutive months? I am trying to decide if I should go ahead and start the 6 month cycle on the pill now and if there is no baby yet I was just going to take a break and have a menstrual cycle and then go back on for another 6 months until baby is coming. Just taking the bcp's by themselves really won't do you much good. I did the protocol while waiting and not having a baby in sight. I was on it for 8 months the first time and I have been on it for 9.5 months so far this time (with 1 more month to go if this situation works out). Jennifer

So you were on the bcp for 9.5 months consecutively? How long was your break between bcp series? Did ou go through through a lactation specialist or did you do this on your own? Sorry for all of the questions. Thank you for your help. Jessica

Then I stopped bf and all drugs for 3 months. Then I went back on them and have been on them for 9.5 months consecutively. If you take the non active pills, it defeats the purpose. You are trying to trick your body into thinking it's pregnant for as long as possible to build up breast tissue and milk ducts. Good luck! Jennifer
