Hi Nona,

Well as you know I have concerns about Reglan. The main one being that it's not approved by the American Academy of Pediatrics for use in Breastfeeding mothers. In fact the AAP classifies this medication as a "drug whose effet on nursing infants is unknown but may be of concern".

According to Thomas Hale, Ph.D "Medications and Mother's Milk 2002", "no pediatric concerns have been reported in infants via breastmilk. And it's "commonly used in pediatrics."

Our main concern with Reglan is the affect it has on the woman taking it. It can cause some pretty bad side effects including severe depression. It has been our experience that domperidone is a much better choice.

Having said that, with the knowledge that we have about the detrimental effects of formula, milk expressed from a mother who has consumed Reglan which still has it's antibodies, growth factors and enzymes intact, is still preferable to milk that is modified from a cow and contains no immune protection.

Hope this helps. Fondly,
