Hey y'all, I'm working on relactating. I'm a mom of a preemie (29 weeker) and did the pumping thing while he was in the hospital. I gave up pumping after he came home and had nipple confusion from having to use bottles after he learned to eat since we lived over and hour away and couldn't get there but every other day for an hour. But, enough about that....back to the problem on hand...I trie dfenugreek...did great with it for 3 days, then all of a sudden in the morning on the 4th day, I woke up sick as a dog! Made my 3rd month morning sickness look like a walk in the park! Any suggestions? It looks like this is going to be a long pumping marathon before I even see anything. Anything would help to make this any easier! thanks! <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Hello,
I get some gas on the Fenugreek but never nausea or vomiting. If it was some type of allergic rxn, it would not have taken several days on the herb to show up. It is used in many countries as a gastric aid. How many capsules were you taking? It's ok to not use the herbs if you are feeling ill from them. You may try domperidone and pumping to bring in more milk for your baby. You can use a Lact-aid supplemental feeding device until yours comes in. You can also get donor breast milk from Nona's milk donation program. You can fortify the breast milk also, if your baby needs more fat/calories. There is info on this site for ordering domperidone. And www.Lact-aid.com is the site for ordering the units,,you can call, fax or mail an order in and they come very fast in the mail,,,mine was here in two days.
Hang in there, take care, Cathy

Can we first rule out a pregnancy? I think a trip to the pharmacy is in order. Fenugreek is not likely to cause nausea.

Fenugreek also made me very ill. Gave me violent diarrhoea and severe nausea even when I reduced the dosage. I switched to domperidone, it didn't have the same effect, maybe it would be the same with you.
Are you working to get your baby back to breastfeeding? It works much better than pumping.

Well if pregnancy is ruled out the best thing to do is to take your fenugreek together with blessed thistle. Fenugreek can cause an upset stomach, although I've not heard of nausea, but blessed thistle is known to calm the stomach which is one of the reasons we recommend it in addition to it being another milk enhancer.
