Hi there, I am so pleased tofind such an informative site & hope you can help. I am 35 and have one son aged 2.5. We are trying for a second and have had two miscarriages- one natural & one that ended in a D & C. I have irregular periods so it has taken us a year to get this far. What I would love to know is should I be getting tests done to see if there is anything wrong with me and my son is a fluke/minor miracle. And when do I start to be concerned that my period has not come after the D&C (it is over 4 weeks)? Should I go on provera to kick start my periods and are there any risks? And finally should I go on clomid as my doctor wants me to regulate my periods. She thinks being over 35 is a big deal as I now have "old eggs." But I know that I am ovulating (two miscarriages), so is it really necessary? I know there are a lot of questions but l am really confused about my options.. Thanks & good luck to every woman TTC Indigo

Hi Indigo,
First, I want to tell you how sorry I am for your losses, I have also had two miscarriages in the last year and know how heartbreaking it is. I also want to tell you that you have definitely come to the right place, Lenore and everyone else here is just wonderful and a wealth of information -- I found this group in February and am so glad I did.
I also want to tell you a little bit about my history, since it is very similar to yours (I'll give the short version). My husband and I found out I was pregnant June 1 of last year (big surprise), Since I had had my son (now six), with no problems, I was not the least bit worried, even though I Was 36 at the time. Four weeks later we miscarried. We got pregnant again in December and miscarried again in Feb of this year. Both pregnancies had some kind of fluid, clot, or cyst in with the baby or right next to the sac. MY Dr. was worried about them both times.
After my second miscarriage my Dr. said I needed some special testing to determine the cause, as Brennan was such an easy pregnancy and delivery she wanted to know why we were all of a sudden having problems. She sent me to a blood specialist who discovered that I have a genetic blood clotting disorder. I am now 13 weeks pregnant and everything looks GREAT! I give myself heparin shots twice a day in my stomach to prevent clots, and everything is going great.
I also want to say shame on your Dr. for saying your age is a big deal. I mentioned to my Dr. before we tried again that I thought I was getting too old and she said NO WAY! She said she has more women then I can imagine having babies several years older then me (I am now 37) -- we just needed to find out the problem. I just think of people like Sarah Jessica Parker, who had her first baby at 37, if she can do it -- so can I!
One thing I do want to share, also, is that Dr. Bick, my specialist, says that most of the women he sees that have repeat miscarriages are 34.5 and older, which is when the veins start breaking down and can't handle clots like they used to. It may be worth looking into if you have not had any problems in the past. I was 31 when I had Brennan, so that made perfect sense.
Take care and keep us posted!

Thanks Barbie for your response. It was very reassuring to read your story and by the way big congrats. on your PG. After reading your email , I now know that I am definitely going to request blood tests etc. I did not realise that in such a short space of time my physicology could change so much. Why should I run the risk of all the anxiety & upset that another miscarriage would entail, if I can get some answers now? I will make that appointment when my six weeks after D &C is up. I just wish AF would arrive so I know my body is getting back to normal. This is one time in this experience that I am looking forward to my period! My OB did mention early menopause which scared the heck out of me. My OB is not as mean as she sounds just a bit too enthusiastic with her knowledge. thanks again and take care. Indie
