Hi my name is Rosie and I went the "natural route" by pumping, and motillium I am producing appx 6-7oz per day. We are expecting our first child on Nov 16. After he is born, I WILL have to supplement with a lact-aid to feed our son. Has anyone outthere used a lactaid in public? How can you do this? Should I tape the tubes on before we go out, or should I BF whatever I have first then bottle feed him in public, then at the house use the lactaid? What do you suggest?

I have been working too hard to get to this point and am so excited to be a first-time mommy after 22 years of waiting! I am 46. I also enjoy being out and about and I just wanted to include my baby and not have to stay home all the time because I am bf.

I sure would appreciate any advice anyone has.

Thank You for your itme! <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hi Rosie, In the first couple weeks when you are just getting comfortable with the Lactaid, you may feel best about sticking close to home. But after that there is no reason you can't nurse anywhere. I nursed my adopted son for two years, with the lactaid most of that time. I tried the tape at first, but found it was not helpful and not necessary either. I just carried my little cooler with an icepack and filled lactaids wherever I went. When Joshua needed to nurse, I would find a comfy place to sit, stick the lactaid on its string around my neck tucked under my shirt, then get latched on. If I was in a group, I might go in the other room to get latched on, or I'd turn my back for a minute while getting settled. I did always use a blanket, just because I am fairly modest. But we really did not look any more conspicuous than any nursing couple. I think geting comfortable with nursing in a variety of places ios a big key to success. If you allow nursing to limit the places you go, you wiull start to resent it, PLUS all the bottles you need in the place of nursing will diminish your supply. By law, we nursing moms have the right to breastfeed anyplace that we and our babies are allowed to be. You can certainly nurse in a modest way if that feels most comfortable to you. But you are doing the best for your baby if you get comfortable with nursing in a variety of situations. Good luck
