Hi! I am new to this board, but would love some much needed help. I have tried motilium/domperdone in the past and have only tried 40 mg a day, it really did nothing for me. I have heard that you need to take 80 mg a day instead to really see results. I am now doing it again, only I don't see much of a result if any with just doing the 40 mg a day. How do I go from 40 mg to 80 mg a day? How do I evenly space them out throughout the day? I am taking herbs to help with this, I take fenugreek and blessed thistle (three tablets--twice a day) is this enough or do I need to take more throughout the day? I heard about doing brewer's yeast, how do I use this? I heard you need to drink lots of water, I hate the taste of water (always have) can I use Gatorade instead and how many glasses do you need to drink to make a difference throughout the day? I have a starter supplemental nursing system and have tried this a couple of times, but when I use it he seems to choke on the tube and then from there he hates using it again. I had a hard time trying to make the flow go once I was ready for him to start to suck. I think he knows that wasn't all mom. Could you help me with this problem? Do I need to pump with all this other stuff? If I do how much time do I spent pumping a day and how long do I need to pump? I just bought a pump, it is a White River hospital grade, I need to get the tubing/bottles to use with it, does anyone know where I can get this? I also have bad allergies whether is be seasonal, environmental or food and I usually take Benadryl does this affect the supply of the milk? I try not to use it too much, but I can get pretty miserable without it. What else I can take to help out without ruining my supply? I thank you for all the help in advance.

I am so sorry your having such a rough time. Okay to start addressing your issues. The best suplimenter is the Lact-aid. It works with your babys suction. There for stimulating your breasts. You need to get one of these and tape the tube down by your nipple. this will keep your baby from choking on it. The tube with the lact-aid is smaller and more supple to. Okay the domperidone. You need to take it 2 tablets 4 times a day. You will need the 80 mgs to help your supply. I would take 2 with your herbs 3 times a day and 2 at bedtime. Your herb amounts are fine. Benadyrl. .If you take to much yes it will dry up some of your milk. The water issue. Try putting some lemon in it or sweeten it with a fruit you like. I am not sure about the Gatoraid. Maybe some of the other moms can chime in about that. Let me ask you a question.. How often do you nurse a day?

Nona-
Hi! I nurse during the day about 10-12 times. At night I co-sleep with him, only he has caught onto sleeping through the night. If he is put in his portable crib (if I have things to do before bed I put him in there until I'm ready for bed then we co-sleep) or if he is sick, we sleep in the rocker in our room then he does nurse a lot through the night. Other problem is I have a 13 1/2 and 9 year old who I homeschool and I am on them for many things they feel the can't do alone. I find I put him off to nurse and he gets mad with this, I feel sad about this, but it's hard to fit everything in during the day. Today my oldest is gone and I am able to make all the nursing seesions. It feels great to be able to give him everything he needs.

Hi H, Nona,

Ok first off the starting dose for domperidone is 10 mg 4 times per day for one week and then increase to 20 mg 4 times per day. Some moms do 30 mg 3 times per day which is also fine.

Most moms take their dose 1/2 hour before meals and at bedtime because it's easier to remember that way.

The MOST important thing you can do for milk supply is frequent draining of your breasts. An efficient baby can drain each breast in about 10 minutes if you assist with breast compressions. But be carefull during letdown because you can overwhelm baby with a compression at the same time. Basically you use them towards the beginning of the feed to get things moving and towards the end of the feed to help drain your breasts.

Don't bother with the brewers yeast, you're taking enough stuff for the time being. Drinking water to thirst is also sufficient, meaning....drink when you're thirsty. Gatorade will pack on the pounds so be carefull. If you hate the taste of water, try mixing a tiny bit of orange juice in a fizzy water like Perier or San Peligrino...better taste without the pounds.

Sorry, not familiar with the White River pump....most of the ladies on the protocols use the Medela Pump in Style. Try doing an internet search or go to Ebay..they may have what you're looking for www.ebay.com

But with everything that's going on. Maybe no pumping for now...try breast compressions to start things going, use your supplementer, and breast compressions towards the end of the feed....just as good as pumping afterwards.

And careful with the Benadryl...too much can affect your milk supply.

Start with this...sort yourself out with the meds and herbs and lets see where you're at in a week. You can email me at lenore@asklenore.info to give me an update.

Hope this helps.
Fondly,

Thanks so much and I will do as you say and let you know how things are going. Thanks for having this board, it helps a lot when you are not near others that understand what is happening on a daily basis with breastfeeding. <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hi! Just had to respond as I am a homeschooling mom too. It can be hard to juggle everything, but your other children are old enough to wait a few minutes til you get your infant latched on. Then they can snuggle in next to you on the couch to do reading. have spelling words dictated, or get help with their math. Remember school does not have to be a rigid, everyone-in-desks thing. In fact you will probably enjoy it a lot more, esp at this time of your life if you are fairly laid-back in your expectations, and don't stress if every single subject does not get done each day. Your kids will be just fine having a less-busy school day for a few months. During the busiest times of my life when I have been on 'maintainance mode' due to a new baby, here is what my kids do: a lesson of math each day, some writing, whether it be copying a Blble verse or writing grandma a letter or doing a 1 page book report, and at least half an hour a day of reading time. The big kids read on their own. First and second graders do a mix of reading to mom and having mom read to them. All of this can be done in bits and pieces between meeting baby needs. I really think it is good for kids to learn that bigger people wait a bit as littler ones have their needs met. Your big kids are old enough to be helpers with household chores too. of course you can intersperse the work with fun down-time things, like an afternoon of videos, or going for a walk with mom, or even a special treat at the grocery store as a reward for a good job mopping the kitchen Your kids can be your allies in this busy time with a new little one.
Best Wishes!!!
