HI all,
We are being considered for and have decided to take if offered a very special needs baby. She has multiple health and developmental issues and they have put in a G tube due to what they call a disorganized suck. She was not taking feeds by mouth well enough to meet all her nutritional needs. She is 5 weeks old and now weighs 4 pounds 8 ounces. She was not a preemie, she suffers from (amongst other things) intra uterine growth retardation. They believe she will also be developmentally delayed if not mentally retarded. She also has dislocated hips and some cranio facial deformity they say she looks dysmorphic. All that being said would I be crazy or is it even possible to eventually try to breast feed this baby??????
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Joni, I don't know if it is possible but I wouldn't say you would be crazy to try. It would be the best thing for her. She obviously will need to learn to suck but won't that be the goal either wa?. She will need the special care and nuturing that breast feeding provides.
God Bless you and keep us posted.

Joni,
What a HUGE heart you have! Alot of people would pass by this little angel because of her situation. I pray all goes well for you if you are chosen, and that God will touch this precious little girl.

Keep us posted,
Jill
