Just thought I would post the first relevant post here and share my story with the protocols.

My journey started when my dd was 3 weeks old and after batteling with a body that refused to work due to the trauma it endured in an incompetant hospital I was convinced I would never have milk and stopped nursing. 3 months later she developed a tummy bug that wouldn't quit. The doctor finally diagnosed her with a milk and soy protein allergy due to flushing the enzyme out of her system that digests it. We finally ended up on a very expensive hypoallergenic formula and the doctor said by 6 mos she would out grow it.....She didn't and was diagnosed with colitis. Turns out when she was 5 mos old, I read somewhere that the enzyme she had flushed out of her system was present in breast milk and it got my wheels working. I wondered if I could just supply her with my milk again if her problem would be fixed? So I decided to relactate.

I tried for months to induce a supply with a baby that screamed every time she saw my breasts. I was only producing 2 oz a day at that point and pumping at all hours of the night and never resting.

I finally ran into Lenore via the wonderful world wide web and she convinced me to try domperidone. After that didn't work we went for the protocol. And boy was I pleasantly surprised My milk supply doubled immediately and quadrupled within two weeks. I was able to supply her with at least one bottle a day and was able to give her a tiny bit of formula before feeds like Lenore suggested in only two weeks!

I finally did stop pumping when she was 16 mos old, not because I wanted to but b/c I ended up becoming ill and was not able to sit up straight to pump due to being so dizzy. I was afraid I would lose my supply and thought it would be a good idea to try and reintroduce things back into her diet.

I started with yogurt since it is supposedly easiest on their tummies. She did fine. A week later I added cheese. She hated it LOL. But now she can't get enough of it. So far so good. On trying soy milk she still was fine but, Lact aid sent her tummy haywire and I became scared. I realized later she was cutting teeth though so it probably wasn't the lactaid. It was enough to scare me for quite some time and now she is 21 mos old. I finally pulled out the straight milk (I know I am a big chicken I waited that long) and I am happy to say that the breast milk has totally cured her of her stomach problems. I never would have had enough of a supply to give her the enzyme her little body so desparately needed without the protocol. And it is wonderful to watch her chomping down on string cheese and yogurt. And awesome to be able to give her what she actually is asking for when she says "milk". So if you are considering the protocols, they are by far worth it. Give them a try and you may be pleasantly surprised too

Susan,

Hey, thanks for sharing! That's really great!! I'm hoping I have a story like yours to tell in the near future. Here it goes: I have stage 4 endometriosis. RE tells me that is our main reason for not being able to conceive. We just adopted our 2nd daughter two weeks ago and about 42 days before that I began the accelerated protocol. I read in all sorts of places that the only known cure for endo is pregnancy. Well...I wondered at the start of this all if my endo would improve while I was on the protocol? When I stopped the bcp (about 3 weeks ago now) I got my period, and, low and behold, NO PAIN!!! Slight cramping, but that's it! Usually I need 8-10 advil during the first 2 days of AF for cramping, but this time I used none! I'm anxiously waiting my next period (can you believe that?!) to see how it goes. I'm not holding out all hope, but even if it improves slightly the protocol was worth it!

BTW, I've been breastfeeding my daughter for a bit more than a week now with the help of the lactaid and things are looking up!

That's awesome Elaine and BTW great name that is DD middle name

I don't have any stats on what it does for endometriosis, but the pill does mimick a pregnancy so that has to be a good thing. Lenore would probably know more.

Keep going and best of luck!

Hi Ladies,

I've got a story too..

Back when I was inducing lactation for my son, I was basically pumping in the hotel room and we didn't have a freezer. My husband had sufferend from an intestinal disorder for 2 years. It's called Clostridium Dificile and they aren't kidding about the "Difficile" which means "difficult" in French. Anyway, there he was, sick, and there I was with all this breastmilk that I couldn't freeze and was just so disappointed that it was going to go to waste. I sweetly suggested that he mix some in with his cereal and that of course no one would know (until I put up a message board) and so he tried it. And he liked it enough to keep mixing it with his cereal until we found an appartment.

Now you have to realize that my husband had been to every doctor including the one at John's Hopkins who specializes in this "condition". Well after a week of mixing my breastmilk with his cereal, he felt 100% better. We found out later that breastmilk has cells that are phagocytic and seek out and destroy bad bacteria which is what the C.Diff is.

So that's my story. Hope it helps.
Fondly,

That story is what convinced me and DH that I was doing the right thing by relactating....Don't worry I won't tell him that you told me

hello,
Lenore, we have quite a few patients who have C. Diff. We use a potent antibiotic called Flagyl for this. Too bad we cannot give our pt's breastmilk!
Also, my endometriosis pain is 99% gone while on the birth control pill. Funny though, on the domperidone and pumping alone, my pain was much worse. I am almost afraid to go off the protocol and pump for fear the pain will come back again.
I am taking my baby aspirin once a day. I am on Diane 35 and domperidone. Would it help breast develoopment in any way if I added one dose a day of the all natural progesterone cream? Also, what about adding Goats Rue, which is supposed to aid with breast development?
Thanks, Cathy
