Does anyone know what would the side effects be if you took more than the perscribed amount (20 mgs, qid) of the domepridone? Would it increase my milk even more quickly? And what would the side effects be? <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/confused.gif" alt="" />

Hi,

When I was doing the protocol with Dr. Newman, I asked him this very same question. He told me that if your milk supply plateaus and you've tried everything else, that you can try 30 mg 3 times per day to increase milk flow but that more than that would not make much of a difference. The original maker of domperidone, Janssen Pharmaceutica, says that the maximum dose is 20 mg 4 times per day. In my personal experience, I did 20 mg 4 times per day along with fenugreek and blessed thistle and was able to bring in a full milk supply for my daughter. I want to add that Lenore was with me every step of the way too. I must have emailed her 100 times. <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/blush.gif" alt="" />

Thanks. Can you take the fenugreek and the blessed thistle at the same time as the domperidone? I thought I had read that you shouldn't take them together. <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/confused.gif" alt="" />

Esther, I am so happy to hear that you got a full supply. How long did you take domperidone for? And at what dosage? I want to start it, and I want it to be a success. Plese help. Is there any advise as to pumping, anything it would greatly be appreciated. [color:"black"]

You can take the herbs together. In fact I've read that one counters possible side effects of another. <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />

Hi Everyone,

I used the Diane 35 and domperidone for 4 months and then stopped the Diane 35 and continued on the dom. I started pumping with the PIS and added the herbs at that time. Lenore explained to me that the herbs help to jumpstart the milk supply. She also advised me not to take the herbs at the same time as the dom and Diane because you'll need the herbs later. She said that if I wasn't on the Diane, that I would have added the herbs after I was used to the dom, about 2 weeks later. I pumped every 3 hours round the clock. My milk started to come in within a few days and the supply kept getting bigger and bigger. It was frustrating at first though because I only got drops and then stayed at about 1/2 oz but Lenore explained that it takes time for the Diane to leave your body and once it does, the milk supply really builds. I noticed a big difference at about 3 weeks. But like I said above, I must have emailed Lenore 100 times. I don't think I would have made it as far as I did without her. A big THANK YOU to Lenore and to Dr. Newman for their incredible protocol.

[color:"red"] Hi again. I haven't started taking the dom, I haven't gotten it yet. I was just wondering what would or could happen if I did take more than 80 mgs total in a day. <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.asklenore.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Hi Anonymous,

I asked Dr. Newman about this. He explained to me that the reason you start the dom alone is so that you can find out how it affects you first before adding herbs or anything. He said that you start the dose off at 10 mg 4 times a day so that you don't get a headache or stomach cramps. If you take more than the recommended max dose of 20 mg 4 times per day you can experience these things and others. And he said that in his experience it doesn't make a difference because your breasts need a certain amount of prolactin to make milk, after that, more medication doesn't affect them after that point so you'd be taking more meds for nothing. And even though very little dom ends up in the milk, you don't want more to end up there than you absolutely need.

So the answer in a nutshell is start your dom at 10 mg 4 times per day and see how you feel. If you're ok, increase to 20 mg 4 times per day but don't add anything else so if you get a weird reaction, you'll know what it is and won't have to play "the guessing game"...was it the dom, was it the herb...was it.....It can be nerve wracking.

After you've been taking the dom for two weeks and you feel ok, you can add the Fenugreek and Blessed thistle...ask Lenore for the amounts...she knows this stuff way better than me...Lenore?

Esther
