I am an adoptive mom to three girls. I nursed my 3 1/2 yr old as a new born for about 4 months, doing the accelarated protocol. I now have a 3 week old. I was not initially planning on nursing her, but have changed my mind. I am going to begin taking Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle today, eating oatmeal, drinking lots of h2o, pumping etc.....I will not be using domperidone this time around. Will I have success?

I tried latching today and she did it, first try!! Not so great w/ the second try. She sucked the formula right out of the lactaid, but I think that means her latch wasn't quite right.

Another other foods/natural herbs I can take to increase my chances of getting milk? Thanks!

Hi Colorado mom,

Goat's rue can help to build breast tissue for mom who wish to avoid the birth control pill portion of the induced lactation protocols but there is not much out there to replace the domperidone's effect on prolactin. Give the Lact-aid a try but please also consider pumping after feeds with a good electric breastpump.

What are your concerns regarding domperidone?

Best,

Lenore, What would you suggest out of the regular protocol the birth control pill or the goats rue? I am just curious I will be starting this protocol as soon as my domperidone comes in the mail from a womderful woman who was on this form!! But just had those couple questions Thanks Tia

Hi Tia,

The birth control pill works far better than the goat's rue. Goat's rue is not a replacement for the birth control pill but rather an alternative suggestion for women who cannot take the birth control pill for valid medical reasons.

Best,
