Has anyone ever heard of doing this?? I had a mid-wife mention it to me, and now a pediatric chiropractor. They say to use Goat's milk and carrot juice combo instead offers better nutrition and is more comparable to breastmilk.

Hi Katie,

I hate to burst your bubble but goats milk can cause serious problems especially because it lacks sufficient iron. And the carrot juice contains way too much beta carrotene which can be very hard on your baby's liver and can lead to jaundice and in severe cases, neurological problems. It's just not worth it. Stick with the tried and true formulas if donor milk is not available to you.

I'm sorry to state the obvious, but neither the midwife nor the chiropracter are infant feeding specialists. They need to concentrate on their own specialties and leave the feeding questions to the pros. The information they are providing you is beyond their scope of practice and not evidence-based.

Do you have a pediatrician? How about discussing this with him/her? Assuming from your question that your child is having feeding problems what about a pediatric gastro-enterologist?

Best,

Thanks for your response, Lenore... We are sticking with a Similac Formula developed for colic. Because of the reasons you stated, I was not comfortable with their suggestion. I also did a search on-line and found no information. So, I was just interested to see if anyone hear had heard similar information. You didn't burst my bubble at all! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I was just looking for more information...
