Lenore suggested that I post to ask you wonderful ladies for advice on adopting a baby. We are with a adoption agency that has a 2 year cap but the 2 years is running out fast with no luck at all. A little background: We tried the normal way for about 10 years with no luck. We also tried invitro 6 times with 2 miscarriages. We have had about 8 or so failed adoptions and also a surrogate that didn't work out. We are an older couple with one adopted daughter and would love to provide her with a brother or sister. I feel we are running out of time for this to happen for us. Any ideas or advice?

Have you considered China?

There are some age limits but they are well into your 40s maybe even upto 50 The only real limit is how many children you already have. They will not let you adopt if you have 5 children in your family. I have friends who have adopted twice from China. You do have to travel but it is only for 2 weeks I believe. I know my friend was not there much more than 2 weeks. You receive your child the day you get there or the day after and you travel in a group of people all receiving their children at the same time. You have an interpretor etc... I will get you more info if you are interested. These girls are in orphanages so you are matched with a child and that is the child you get. The adoptions don't fall through. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

That won't work for me as I am in my upper 50's and my husband is 51. Dang any other suggestions?
We only have one child at home so I am good there.

I will still check on the China thing as I am not sure on the age limits. People in other countries tend to be older parents more so than in the US. I will keep thinking of other options as well.

I googled China adoption. The one I looked at said the max age was 55 but you could be eligible if one spouse was over 55.
I will find out who my friend went through.
This one I looked at was www.chinaadoption.org

Just found this on an adoption website:

"Older persons, who may find domestic adoption presents too many hurdles due to the age factor, often turn to countries like Mexico, Russia, or Greece where the upper age limit is 60. Other countries, like Ukraine and Venezuela, have no statutory age limit; however, prospective adoptive parents are interviewed and their abilities to parent evaluated." Also I read that Ethiopia has no legal age limit, although generally places children with no more than 40 years between child and parent - would you be willing to consider an older child?

Hope this helps...
