Hi Everyone,

I'm pleased to announce that the Newman-Goldfarb Protocols have been published in a summarized format in the Breastfeeding Answer Book by Nancy Morbacher, La Leche League International. This new edition provides 3 pages on the protocols and lists the Regular, Menopause and Accelerated Protocols.

For a more complete version of the protocols you can visit the breastfeeding page of this site and click on "adoptive breastfeeding" or email me at Lenore@asklenore.info and I'll be happy to email you a copy of the guide to the protocols.

Warmest regards,

Lenore Goldfarb, Ph.D.,CCC,IBCLC
Wife to Rob, Mom to Adam aged 13, and Ethan aged 9, both born via GS and breastfed via Regular Newman-Goldfarb Protocol.

Thank you.

Both Dr. Newman and myself are very pleased to have our hard work included in such an important publication. Contrary to some allegations recently posted on the other site, Dr. Newman and I wrote the protocols together. It was Dr. Newman who suggested the original idea of using domperidone and the birth control pill together. I was the first of his patients to try this new medicated protocol to induce lactation.

After my success, many women emailed, asking about it and so I wrote the guiide to the protocols and sent it to Dr. Newman. He made wonderful suggestions and helped me to edit the original guide. As time went on he helped me to write several new sections and took the time to go over the entire guide several times, offering suggestions and rewriting whole sections of it. This truly has been a collaborative effort and we are indeed co-authors.

The guide is also quite well referenced and footnotes appear liberally throughout the guide to offer credit to others whose work is mentioned, including Dr. Newman's previous publications.

There is some confusion concerning Dr. Newman's willingness to accept private emails from patients. Currently he is in South Africa and is not able to respond until March 15 but in any event, it is no longer his policy to accept private emails from patients unless they are referred by a medical practitioner or IBCLC. The one exception is the ladies on the ABRW site.

Following the owner's decision to remove the guide to the protocols from the home page, I contacted Dr. Newman and requested that he accept referrals from that site via the owner. He was very gracious about it which no doubt led the owner to conclude that I had misled her about Dr. Newman's policy but he has clearly stated it publicly on Lactnet and other sources.

There is very little upon which Dr. Newman and I disagree. And should that occur, I most always defer to him, as I should, given his vastly superior knowledge and experience. So any notion that I would be propagating ideas that we are not in accordance with is ridiculous.

As for trolling other sites for patients, that's also ridiculous. I have enough to keep me quite busy.

I am not surprised by the other site's lack of endorsement of either me or the protocols. It's just further evidence of the closed minded, old fashioned way of thinking that propagates that site.

And as for unprofessional behaviour, well, it seems to me that anyone who would request "donations" on a commercial site without non-profit status, and therefore without the legal right to issue donation receipts ought to look in the mirror.

Since this is not a commercial site, and since I do not profit in any way from the use of the protocols, or my work with adoptive breastfeeding moms, I have no motivation whatsoever to "pedal" anything.

Hope this clears up some of the misconceptions that are out there.

Warmest regards,

I'm so excited for you, Lenore! Congratulations!
And thank you, also, for the rebuttal of the statements made on that "other" site. I don't know why I am surprised at the vehemence of the statements from that site. I should be used to it by now. But it bothers me still, and it certainly doesn't seem professional of them. I haven't been posting there as much, anymore, because who wants to get yelled at for stating your own views?
Anyway, I am glad you are published. I will let my Dr know that next time I go in. I am due for my annual this spring, and I am sure he will be surprised that I am pumping 20 ounces a day! Thanks to the protocols!

Hey Lenore!!

CONGRATS on the protocols being published!!! I saw the book, it's fabulous!!!

Now, if you don't mind me asking, what the heck is going on over at the "other place"? She even thinks I'm YOU? I guess I learned a lot from you!

I agree with Dawn. I'm happy you posted this "rebuttal". And I might add that you've exercised quite a bit of restraint considering how nasty those comments have been. I wish they'd stop. It's not the supportive and loving atmosphere that they think over there with all this "Lenore bashing". Quite low class and down right mean if you ask me.

I'm happy you moved and set up this site. THIS is a loving, supportive and nurturing community and I'm proud to be a part of it.

Thanks ever so much, Esther

Belated Congratulations Lenore & Dr Newman!

I bought the book for reference and found it very helpful. It gives a lot of useful information about what to do if problems occur with breastfeeding once your milk supply comes in etc so I guess it will come in very useful in the near future!

Keep up and good work!

Love
Andria
