Anyone out there successfully get their insurance company to cover a hospital-grade breastpump for an adoption before baby had arrived?

I'm hoping to do this, but unsure whether it'll work, or whether they'll laugh at me! laugh

Nevermind..I just found a bulletin from my insurance online stating that a breastpump is not medically necessary unless I have a baby with a congenital malformation and then only for one month, or if I have a preemie.

It was a good thought!!

I spoke to a lactation consultant in Arizona. She said most insurance plans in this state won't cover pumps for adoption. BC/BS will cover breast pump for premies as DME (durable medical equipment.) However, there is a limit they will pay for DME. So, if you elect a breast pump and your baby is discharged on oxygen, you may have to pay for the oxygen if you used up your DME amount on the breastpump.

Hi Ladies,

If you purchase a Limerick, it's rated multi user so you can sell it to another mom near you or on ebay when you're done. Just a thought....
