OP bbyfaith member B Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 72	Anyone out there successfully get their insurance company to cover a hospital-grade breastpump for an adoption before baby had arrived? I'm hoping to do this, but unsure whether it'll work, or whether they'll laugh at me! 1year on regular protocol. Nursing/pumping for one month for our sweet girl!!

OP bbyfaith member B Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 72	Nevermind..I just found a bulletin from my insurance online stating that a breastpump is not medically necessary unless I have a baby with a congenital malformation and then only for one month, or if I have a preemie. It was a good thought!! 1year on regular protocol. Nursing/pumping for one month for our sweet girl!!

Second experienced member S Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 101	I spoke to a lactation consultant in Arizona. She said most insurance plans in this state won't cover pumps for adoption. BC/BS will cover breast pump for premies as DME (durable medical equipment.) However, there is a limit they will pay for DME. So, if you elect a breast pump and your baby is discharged on oxygen, you may have to pay for the oxygen if you used up your DME amount on the breastpump.
